Second In Ctaaty Contest Ml iAVerl Ailrttd ef thi city, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hwmaa Allred, had the distinct honor of being selected as second place winner win-ner in the Poultry Day Beauty Show at American Fork on Wednesday of last week and was awarded the second prize of ' fifteen dollars. Miss Lenore Crookston of American Fork, came first and was awarded the first prize of twenty-five dollars. Evelyn Madson, also of American Fork, was third place winner and was awarded a five dollar prize. Other girls, entering from Lehi included in-cluded Miss Delia Roberts, Fifth Ward; Lela Jones,; Fourth Ward and Miss Beth Trinnaman, Third Ward. LaVerl was chosen from the First Ward. Mrs. M. S. Lott was the member of the committee from Lehi in charge of the contest. The beauty contest was open to all young women in the north end of the county and a large group enter ed. The gins came down tne west steps of the Alpine Stake Taber nacle, walked around to the front of the building and re-entered through the north doors, thus making mak-ing it possible for a large crowd to view each participant. Three competent judges were amongst the spectators and judged each girl, according ,to four divisions, Features, Form, Carriage and Dress. The committee in charge of the contest Included Edward R. I. A., commenced the ward outings on June 22. The Fourth ward was the first, to go. spending June 22, 23 and 24, at the Dell, the First Ward came next on June 25, 26 and 27 and this week members of the Fifth Ward are enjoying their vacation. Members of the Mutual presidencies from each ward, a member of the stake board and several parents chaperoned chaper-oned the groups. Wholesome, pleasant recreation is provided and healthful food is prepared. The three days are "chuck" full of en tertalnment for the Mutual mem bers. - -o- i . -: ' 1 Small Fire At Dorton Home Last Sunday A small fire of unknown origin, destroyed a small pile of dry hay, a ladder, boxes and other small articles at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph E. Dorton. Sunday and threatened the chicken coops and other buildings on the lot. No one knows how the fire first started. It was first noticed bv Keed Wilkins. who quickly notified Mr. and Mrs. Dorton. - They with the help of neighbors, extinguished ii mo names before much damage was done. The fire department was called but were unable to get water to reach the fire. The fire was put out by the means of buckets. WHO TRIP At the present time great interest is being aroused among the people of our city as to Just who will be selected as the queen of the Beet Sugar Day Rodeo Celebration. The girl selected will have numerous honors bestowed upon her, one of which is a free trip to California, and this makes Jhe contest all the more interesting and exciting. She will preside over the Sugar Day Rodeo fete and be paid all homage due her Royal Highness., the Sugar Queen, ride on a specially designed float here during the parade and then have & chance of being selected to reign as queen at the Utah County Fair this fall in Prove 'The fortunate young lady will, in addition, receive a free trip to California in company with other county queens, all of whom will be properly chaperoned. All trans portation and hotel bills will be paid and the young lady will also be elven free screen tests, a favor which cannot be purchased and comes only through special arrange ment. Six queens from Utah County selected on similar occasions will get the free trip to California. The girl that comes second to the queen in the contest will be chosen as "Miss Lehi" and will ride in a prominent place in the big parade. . , : '- ' -' - A handsome float has been pre CI I & S committee, upon which each queen of each celebration of the county from now until fair time will ride. Celebration Members of the committee In charge of the big three day Sugar Day celebration to be held August 12. li and 14, met together last week and furthered the plans for this entertainment. Their bedding nearly fell from their car and Mr. Mace, who was driving pulled to the aide of the road to re-arrange the bedding on the car. Mr. Foreman walked across the street to see If there was any water in a nearby ditch and in crossing was struck by the northbound north-bound Ford automobile, and knocked knock-ed a distance of seventy feet. - Mark and James Greenwood, also of American Fork, were riding In the car driven by Earl Howes. The boys state that they failed to see the man until he was directly In front of them and it was impossible to stop until it was too late. Mr. Foreman was immediately rushed to the Lehi Hospital and Is there at the present time, receiving medical treatment by Dr. F. D. Worlton. Mayor I. W.
