LEGIONNAIRES DISTRICT CONVENTION Annual convention for district four American Legion and Auxiliary Aux-iliary will be held in Santaquin May 9, at 2 p. m., Clark L. Tol- ton, Commander Post 49, announced an-nounced this week. Department officers will be In attendance and all members of the Legion and the Auxiliary are urged to attend. Considering the number high schools who participated in the Brigham Young invitational track and field meet Friday and Saturday, American Fork high school won more than its share of laurels. Only senior boys and junior high students took part Senior high girls had their day last week. Not to be outdone by their older classmates, the Junior girls also came up with a triple rating in the posture parade Farrar Junior hign, Frovo, was the only other school to attain this merit. Commenting on the posture parade, Col. Paul H. Weiland Utah national guard instructor and one of the judges, said was "the best marching I've ever seen outside of soldiers." Junior High Boys In the 440 yard relay junior high boys, Larry Pace, Norman Williamson, Ray Kitchen, and Kale Smith, won first place Time 1:46.3. In division I, Dick Chipman placed third in the 100 yard dash, in division II Larry Pace placed in the same event, and Kent Walker placed third in the broad jump. In the second section of the 880 yard relay American Fork placed fourth with Donald Gray, Robert Johnson, John Van Wag oner, and Lee Walker winning. In the third division Jack Mecham placed second in the 440 run, and the school team placed second in the 440 relay with Glade Tregaskis, Duane Bath Frank Nicholes and Jack Mecham running. Senior Boys Senior high boys, Delbert Hog lund, Ronald and Keith Smith and Ernest Hindley, placed sec ond in the 880 relay; DelMar Fraughton took second in the pole vault, Calvin Giddings third in the shot put, and Ralph McDonald, third in - the high jump. In the tennis tournament Kel vin Brewer and Richard Cook were defeated in the semi-finals by the BYU team after playing three rounds in which they re feated Grantsville, Wasatch Academy, and Spanish Fork. Lewis faces a battery of photographers in Washington after he was convicted con-victed and fined on a government govern-ment contempt charge. His UMW Union was also fined. Traditional "Red" and "White" political parties are putting forth every effort to have their candi-rates candi-rates win in the election which will be held at the high school next week. Climax to the cam paigning .will take place this morning (Thursday) when each party will take a half hour of assembly time to present their nominees. Lloyd Wright, (Red) son of Mr. and Mrs. William H. Wright, is opposing Mark Grant (White), son of Mr. and Mrs. Knord Beck, for the office of student body president for 1948-49. Vice presidential pres-idential candidates are Max Smith (Red) and Miss Edith Moss (White). For the position of secretary Lois Humphries (Red) opposes Steve Seastrand (White), Kaye Holmstead (Red) is pitted against Cleo Wagstaff (White) for program chairman, and Frank Nicholes (Red) is vieing with James Hindley (White) for business manager. BASEBALL SCHEDULE Schedules have been set up by the Utah Central Baseball league for the first half of the season for both the Northern and Southern divisions.
