State St. Phone 124-J LEHI, UTAH Departing Missionary Mis-sionary Extensively Exten-sively Entertained Miss Freda Phillips, who leaves in the near future for the East Central Cen-tral States mission field, with headquarters head-quarters at Louisville, Kentucky, has been extensively entertained during the week by numerous friends and relatives. Miss Phillips leaves Monday Mon-day morning for the missionary school in Salt Lake City and on Thanksgiving day will depart for the mission field. Saturday evening the Sunday school officers and teachers of the First ward entertained at a social in the Relief Society hall in honor of Miss Phillips. The evening, was delightfully spent in lively games, after which delicious refreshments were served- Twenty-five guests were In attendance. They presented her with a lovely leath-bound Sunday School song book. The Junior girls of the First ward M. I- A., of which Miss Phillips was j class leader, entertained in her honor Monday evening at the home of Miss Beth Fox. A variety of in teresting games were played and dainty refreshments served. The girls presented her with a lovely gift- In attendance were Misses Geraldlne Taylor, Dorothy Ford, Rhea Higginson, Jean Gray, Jean Darling, Lillian Gray, S'alina Peterson, Peter-son, Margaret Walker, Elsie Cox, Beth Fox, Miss Reva Goates, the other group leader, and the guest of honor. Wednesday evening Mrs. Levi Phillips entertained at a house party honoring her daughter, Freda- Thirty guests were present and enjoyed a delightful evening of program num bers and games, after which tasty refreshments were served. Last Thursday Mrs. Mary Gurney entertained at a prettily-appointed dinner party in honor of Miss Freda Phillips, who will depart soon for the mission field- Covers were laid for Mr. and Mrs. Levi Phillips, Doug las Phillips, Mr. 'and Mrs- Lester Peterson and three children, Mr. and Mrs. Ferrin Gurney and the guest of honor. Friday evening Mrs- Lester Peter son is entertaining a group of Freda's girl and boy friends at a party in her honor and Saturday evening a missionary farewell party is being- given for her in the First ward Amusement Hall, to which everyone Is Invited. Mr. and Mrs. Ferrin Gurney en tertained on Wednesday evening of last week, complimentary to Miss Phillips. The evening was spent in making candy and playing games. Mr- and Mrs. Free left Saturday for their home in Los Angeles, after a several days visit here- Mr. and Mrs. Fred Hillas of Pro- vo were visiting at the J. Nile Wash burn home here on Monday. Mr. Hillas returned Monday evening and Mrs. Hillas is spending the week here. Mrs- Washburn is the daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. Hillas. The Second ward Mutual officers entertained at a social Wednesday evening, in the ward chapel, follow ing the Road show presentation for members of the cast of the Second ward act- The Mutual officers, all members of the cast and the Bishop- Tic and their wives were in attend ance. A social was enjoyed and dainty refreshments served. Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Francis, who were married Thursday in the Salt Lake temple, left Sunday for a honeymoon hon-eymoon trip through Idaho, Washington Wash-ington and down the coast to California. Cali-fornia. "IT Experiments On Gold Separator Salt Lake City, November 4 Providing Pro-viding the "mechanical gold p&nner," that is now In experimental operation opera-tion at the University of Utah ore dressing station, proves practical, gold mining in this manner will be able to compete successfully with the flotation and cynideation processes now in use, according to Professor R. L. Kidd, who is in charge of the experiment. The machine, which has been placed at the disposal of the University Uni-versity for experimental purposes by the Snyder mining interests, has already al-ready proven practical In the extraction ex-traction of flour gold from placer sands. It works on the principal of a combination sluice box and amalgamator, amal-gamator, in which a mercury bath is used to concentrate the gold to the place of the common mercury plates. The present machine Is capable cap-able of separating 50 yards of gold gravel from the gold ore in eight hours using 70 gallons of water per minute while In operation. The machine is the invention of a Utah man, Mr. C. F. Bird, who has been operating it successfully in placer deposits on the Colorado and Snake rivers for the past ryo years.
