R. A. committee to Improve Lehi's water department. The reason for the delay in getting the loan Is due to technicalities and the state organ ization not being fully organized yet The N. R. A. plan Is to distribute three billion, three hundred mill-Ions mill-Ions of dollars throughout the nation to create employment. These loans are to be made to cities to carry out projects to create employment. employ-ment. The Federal Government will make thirty percent of the loan an absolute grant to the city and the rest can be paid for In a period of thirty years at 4 per cent interest. Lehi city applied for $30,000 some time ago and since then cit izens have recommended that the council make it $50,000. With the loan, the city officials plan to replace the main city water line from the tanks to the city and to replace all of the two-inch lines with four-inch pipes. They plan to install meters to all users and to replace the Une that runs to the Junction, now under the highway, thus putting the water works system In splendid shape. Bushman, . three-months three-months old son of Suel and Wanda Dickerson Bushman, died at the family home Monday, August 7. The baby had been ill since birth. He is survived by his parents, a brother, Melvin, and a sister, Beth, and a grandmother, Mrs. Robert Davis of American Fork. Funeral services were held Wed nesday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the Fifth ward chapel. Counselor E. B. Garrett offic iated. As the opening number a quartet, composed of Mrs. Rula Dorton, Mrs. Leota Peterson, Gail pnd' Flossie Webb sang "Consolation.' "Consola-tion.' Randall Schow offered the cpsning prayer. A vocal duet, "Some Sweet Day" by Misses Gail and Flossie Webb, accompanied by Miss Arva Wing; was the next number.. Speakers were President Virgil H. Peterson and Bishop Henry Erickson. Each of them convey 3d many fine thoughts and spoke cori- :oling words to the bereaved family. Miss Arva Wing played a beau tiful violin selection, "Resignation," accompanied by Miss Gall Webb, and E. B. Garrett made closing re marks. As the closing musical number the quartet sang "Wanted n the Other Side," after which A. E. Bushman offered the benedic: tion. Interment was made in the city '-etery where E. B. Queen's Contest Arousing Great Interest Who will be the three popular young ladies to reign as Miss Utah, Miss Lehi and Miss Saratoga, dur ing the Utah Beet Sugar Day Rodeo celebration, August 17, 18 and 19? That is the paramount question at the present time in Lehi. The time Is drawing near when the election of queens will take place. The girl with the highest number of votes will reign as Miss Utah, the next highest, Miss Lehi, and the next highest, Miss Sara toga. Prizes of fifteen, ten and five dollars, respectively, will be awarded the three winners. 'Another dance wifi take place Saturday night at Saratoga, during which voting will take place. The standing of the candidates will be announced at various intervals during dur-ing the dance. The closing queen dance will take place Tuesday night, August 15, when the election will take place. After Saturday night the present list will be eliminated down to the ten highest contest ants, however new candidates may be entered any time. This issue marks the end of the eighteenth year and the beginning of the nine teenth year. The first issue of the paper made its appearance on the morning of August 5 1314, Just one day after the declaration of the War between Germany 'and the Allies. Since that time the paper has been grow ing continuously and today it goes into almost every home In Lehi precinct and also carrying news of out town to ftundwds of former residents, who nave moved to other parts. The San is also sent to the missionaries In the field who rejoice re-joice in the news of their "'old home town." The growth has. been steady and sure and has always loudly spoken the success of the paper. Employes Club Field Day Outing The Salt Lake & Utah Railroad Employees, families and friends, hold their yearly outing, at Saratoga Sara-toga Resort, Saturday afternoon, August 12th, There will be close to four hundred attend who are employees, em-ployees, wives jand children, and the club expect many of their friends to Join them. A hand ball game wfll be played at 5 p. m. between be-tween the north end and the south end. Foot races will be had for children, men and women. A tug- of war will follow between the north, and south end. ' In the evening at 7:30 p. m. a program wfll be held, featuring musical numbers and other stunts, put on by the Employees, after which will come swimming and the basket lunch parade. Committees have been hard at work arranging details for the celebration cel-ebration and promise the citizenry of Lehi one of the best ever held here before. The three days will be filled with activities for both young and old. 'The"' first day's activities com mence with a Grand Parade at 10:30 a. m. A big feature of the parade will be the huge float, provided pro-vided by the Sugar company for the three queens, Miss Utah, Miss Lehi and Miss Saratoga. Thess three young ladies will ride on the float in royalty and will reign during dur-ing the entire celebration. The 3nt?st for the selection of the queens is going forward at the present pres-ent with great interest. The Lehi City Band will lead the parade, the queens float win ioi-icw, ioi-icw, and then will come the big miniature section, featuring child- under ten years of age. All business places will be represented with floats and the various ward church organizations are planning unique floats, civic organizations, etc. will also be represented. Nations and characters of every d3scrtption will be depicted In gay colored K floats. Every child participating In the parade will be given a priae by ths Lions club and will be admitted free to the first day's entertainment, entertain-ment, as guests of the dub. It was first announced that the parade would be held on the rodea grounds, but dus to other arrangements arrange-ments it will be held on the streets and will go through main street. Ray Strong Meets Death In Fall Ray Strong; 33, of Alpine met with a -tragic death Monday, when he fell from a two-story window at the New Elk Hotel" in Salt Lake City at T.IS p. m. He suffered a broken neck. Mr. Strong wasthe husband of Josephine Merrill Strong, a former resident of LehU and a son-in-law of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Merrill of San Francisco, California, former residents of this city; MrsStrong is well-known in tlris community and the sympathy of Lehi people goes out to her antf her family In this sad bereavement.
