Howard Quale Cooner Dies After Lingering Illness Fitting tribute was paid to Howard How-ard Quayle Cooper, 38, in the funeral fun-eral services held Monday at 2 o'clock o'-clock in the Fifth ward chapel. There was a large attendance and many beautiful floral pieces attesting attest-ing to the high esteem In which the deceased and his family was held. Mr. Cooper passed away at his residence in Salt Lake City Friday morning following a lingering illness ill-ness of heart trouble. The family had made their home in Lehi un til a few months ago, when they moved to Salt Lake. Bishop Henry Erlckson presided at the services which opened with a song "Jesus Lover of My Soul" sung by Mrs. Lula Anderson, Mrs. Rula Dorton, Joseph Kirkham and Morris Anderson, accompanied by Miss Gail Webb, following which the invocation was offered by Virgil Vir-gil H. Peterson. A vocal solo "Lay My Head Beneath The Rose" was next rendered by Mrs. Rose Lott, accompaned by Miss Gail Webb. A biographical sketch of the life of the deceased and resolutions of respect from the American Legion and Auxiliary was read by Bishop Henry Erickson, which was followed by a vocal solo "Absent" sung by John H. Tolman, brother-in-law of Mr. Cooper, accompanied by Mrs. Anderson. The speakers were George Faust of Salt Lake, a commander of the Disabled War Veterans; Horace Hollingsworth of Burley, Idaho, a life-long friend of the family and Bishop William Hadfield, short remarks re-marks were also made by Bishop Erickson. Following the remarks of Mr. Faust, Abe Anderson and Morris Anderson sang a duet "Whispering Hope". A vocal solo, "Sleep Soldier MEMORIAL DAY TO BE , FITTINGLY; fJBSER VED Tuesday, May 30th, is the day set apart to honor our departed loved ones. For the past two weeks a large force of R. F. C. men have b:en working on our cemetery. Everything promises to be in tip top shape. If possible the Lehi Silver Band under the direction of professor Abraham Anderson will render suitable music at 10 a. m. The American Legion and auxiliary will see that every soldier's grave is fittingly decorated. Because of the lateness of the season, flowers are very scarce, but we feel sure that all will do their part to make Memorial Day a fitting tribute to our Dead. Mayor of Lehi City, I. W. BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH Howard Quayle Cooper was born May 4, 1895, at Island, Idaho, the son of John Lewis and Corilla Ann Carson Cooper, who were amone the first pioneers to settle in Oakley Oak-ley Valley, Idaho. Howard spent his time attendina school and working at farming and stock raising until 1918 when he en tered the World War. He was in service until after the Armistice was signed. On June 1, 1922, he was married to Josephine Berry at Lehi, where they have until recently made their home. He is survived by his wife and four sons, Howard Eugene, 8 years; John Berry, 6 years; Gary LaMont, 3 years; Richard Lewis, 1 year, and also by the following brothers and sisters: William Ray, Truman, Lawrence, Law-rence, Mrs. Grace Gale and Mrs. Mabel Bowman, of Burley, Idaho. Howard died at his residence,2623 Elizabeth Street, Salt Lake City, Friday Fri-day morning, May 19, following a lingering illness of h?art trouble. Whenever Howard's ' health permitted per-mitted he was an active worker in the church and at the time of his death he held the office of an El der. .. He was also a member of the Dis abled American Veterans Organiz ation. Lehi Baseball Season Opened Here Wednesday Play ball! Batter up! Such familiar cries were heard at !the Lehi city baseball park Wednesday Wednes-day at 3.30 o'clock when local talent tal-ent took the field against Payson in their first game of the league season. Lehl with Orem, Heber, Pleasant Grove, American Fork and Payson comprise the Central Utah Baseball League. Merchants and business men have been generous enough to help the club out by advancing funds when they were so badly needed for the league entrance fee, etc. The club also purchased new sweat shirts, caps, socks and bats. Manager Ferd Evans with the following fellows donned suits for the first game, Earl Jackson, Ralph Goodwin, Bill Bone, Herb, Edwards, Glenn Chilton, Joe Colledge, El-don El-don Turner, Wllford Manning, Harry Har-ry Manning, Wonfer Barnes, Jay Whitman, Henry Turner, Willard Manning, Bill Ball and Earl Gals-ford. Gals-ford. Judging from the enthusiasm of the boys and the interest of the townspeople, Lehl will have a splendid splen-did ball team before the end of the season. The players undoubtedly gave a good account of themselves In the first game. The rodeo bleachers have all been moved to the city park and the grandstand will now seat thousands of people. The first game of the season ended with Payson in the lead, 13 to 10, in nine innings. It was a fast and closely con tested encounter from start to finish. fin-ish. The Lehl boys made a very fine showing and in the next game to be played at Heber, they will undoubtedly make the Heberltes step lively. New Central Utah League Opens Play The recently organized Central Utah baseball league opened the season yesterday with three games, one each at Lehl, American Fork and Pleasant Grove. Payson opened at Lehi, Orem at American Fork and Heber at Pleasant Grove. The clubs will play two games weekly, mid-week games being played play-ed in the three north Utah county towns and the week-end games on Friday at Heber, Saturday at Orem and Sunday at Payson. The Tulips were just beginning be-ginning to look rsal pretty, when on? morning last week when Mr. Kirkham, the caretaker of the park, came on the job, he saw where someone, wearing a man's size shoe, had deliberately pulled several tulips up by the roots and carried them away. On Monday morning of this week when Mr. Kirkham came to work, he discovered that someone had maliciously picked nearly all of th2 blossoms. He later found them strewn over the park. We feel that tricks of this kind are a disgrace dis-grace to our city and to civilization. civiliz-ation.
