A. recre. ational workers and a number of rep. resentatives of the various v -vards Included in Alpine Stake, is being held at Mutual Dell next Saturday, June 23rd. The day's activities will commence at 11 o'clock in the morn Ing and be in progress until that evening. The purpose of this, convention is to instruct and train the Recreational leaders in new methods of presenting group games, stories, and other features feat-ures of entertainment to those who attend Mutual Dell this year and par ticipate in the three days program. It is aiso their hope to have prominent promin-ent state professors of geology, art, biology and nature study present to accompany the convention pembers on their hikes and bring out the beauties beau-ties of the trail, calling their interest to the history and geneology of plant life and the formations sighted by the group. ' In this way, instead of hav. ing the goal of their hike as the main object of their trip, interest .will be held all the way; and unseen attrac. tions brought out! Eugene Roberts, coach of the' B. T. Salt Lake Temple. :; .-, Miss Smith is a graduate of the Logan high school and a student of the Brigham Young University. Mr. Storrs is also'a student of the -Brig-ham Young University of Provo, and has fulfilled a two years mission for the L. D. S. Church In Australia. Both the young couple have taken prominent parts, in their respective communities and have a host of friends showering success and future happiness upon them. , Following ' a honeymoon trip through Southern Utah they will make their home in American Fork. The affair will be held this year at Vivian Park in Provo Canyon, which is' an ideal place for an outing of this kind. The park will be the scene of great activity and merriment, as this party is looked forward to by hundreds of older people from each town in the stake. ' . . The committees in v charge J bave been planning and working diligently on the day's program' and luncheon to make it one of the best summer outings ever held. It is estimated about 1500 guests will be entertained. Each ward will take care of ,the transportation for their old people. The guests will meet at 9 o'clock at their, ward meeing houses respective-ly. respective-ly. ... o ' Mr. and Mrs. John Devey Married Sixty Years Mr. and Mrs. John Devey who have enjoyed sixty years of married life, celebrated their anniversary last night (Wednesday) with a large reception re-ception in the Memorial building. The party was in progress as we went to press. Three hundred relatives and friends were invited to the affair. Relief Society Conjoint Meeting Next Tuesday The Relief Societies of the five wards will hold their social service conjoint meeting next Tuesday after noon in the First Ward Relief Society hall A good speaker and splendid mixed program are being arranged for. Hindley-Kirkham Reception One of the leading nuptial events of the week was the marriage, of Miss Mona Hundley, charming daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Hindley of this city, and Raymond I Kirkham, son of Mrs.- Sarah Kirkham of Lehi, which took place Thursday, June 14th, in the Salt Lake Temple. . That evening In the Apollo Hall, a reception was given in their honor by the bride's parents, to which three hundred invitations were issued. Entertaining features were given during the evening by Miss Arvilla1 Watson, who with three of her danc Ing students, interpreted their version ver-sion of the late college dance, the Varsity Drag, Mrs. J. C. Russel who sang a solo, Mrs. Thomas Kirkham who sang a vocal solo and Mrs. Mary E. Abel, who gave several clev. er readings. The young couple left Wednesday morning for Seattle, Washington, where they will make their future home for an indefinite period of time. Best wishes for their future happiness happi-ness and success from their many friends go with them on their trip. . o Powell-Hales Swimming Class To Be Conducted Every Saturday Commencing Saturday, June 23, Mr. Roy Passey of Proyo, will conduct a series of swiming and life saving lea-sons lea-sons to be given at Saratoga ' each Saturday evening at 8 ' o'clock. One pool will be reserved at this time for this purpose. , ' Mr. Passey, is a member of the National Red Cross Life Saving Corp. and is well known by all .Boy Scout workers. At a preliminary demonstration given last Saturday night at Saratoga two scouts from Heber successfully passed their life saving tests for first class scouts after eight lessons. Union Pacific Watch Inspec-1 Inspec-1 tor Visits Local Jeweler R. V. Owens, chief watch inspector for the Union Pacific railroad with headquarters in Omaha, was in Lehi Saturday checking up with local time peice inspector, E. N Webb. While here he had the official railroad sign placed on' the . Webb Jewlery store window. Chief Inspector Owens had high praise for the way in which the inspection is being carried out by the local jewler. P. Knowl. ton. Observations on the number of beet leafhoppers present and the amount of curly-top occurring in the best fields in a number of the beet! areas are given for the year 1926 and 1927. A list of plants on which the leafhopper has been collected during the survey is Included and a few of the most important plants are discuss ed. ' Another timely and interesting publication just recently , released by the Utah Agricultural Experiment Station is its Bulletin No. 206 entitled "Treehopper Injury in Utah Orchards," Written by Charles U. Sorenson. Many Utah; orchards suffer considerable in jury because of being attacked in the late summer of each year by certain species of treehoppers, pamage is most prevalent where alfalfa, sweet clover, grass, or weeds grow in the orchard. Bulletin 206 contains a description of the Injury, the conditions condi-tions (both favorable and unfavorable to its cause), and of the insects responsible re-sponsible for it Various methods for the prevention of the Injury are also discussed. ; These publications are both available avail-able for free distribution to the residents resi-dents of Utah and will be Bent upon application to the Division of Pub. lications, Utah Experiment Station, Logan, Utah. Ladies Night At Saratoga s ' Friday, June 22nd The Lions Club will hold their regular ladles night tomorrow, Friday, at Saratoga resort. , The guests will meet at 7:30 p. m. in the bowery where luncheon will be served. Mrs. Stanley Taylor will act . as toastmlstress of .the evening. Bathing and dancing will form, the remainder of the evening's program. From all indications the party will be one of the best and most interesting affairs held. The committee in charge of the party includes A. F. Webb, Dr. F. D. Worlton and A. H. Wing. Kintergarten Movement Move-ment Started The kintergarten movement Is still being talked of In our community. It will be a splendid opportunity for our young children to get a course of training that will consist of memori-Eation, memori-Eation, dramatization, paper cutting, story telling, rythmn exercises, .songs and group games, by this careful instruction in-struction the child is better prepared, when he or she enters school. Mothers and progressive women citizens of the town should make every effort possible pos-sible to secure the kintergarten for our town. Already classes of kintergarten kinter-garten are being conducted . In American Ameri-can Fork and Pleasant Grove with an enrollment of 50 or more. It is- hoped we wilf all get busy and Becure a kintergarten for our town, as it Is indeed in-deed a project worthy of consideration. Announcement is made bp Mr. and Mrs. James T. ' Peterson-Bagley Marriage An interesting nuptial event of the week was the marriage of Miss Yvonne .Peterson of Hollywood, Cali fornia, and Mr. Almorean Bagley of Salt Lake City, which was solemnized Wednesday, June 20th, in the Salt Lake Temple. : ' : The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Peterson formerly of this city, who have been living in Hollywood for the past seven years. Miss Peterson has a host of friends in Lehi wishing her future happiness. The young couple will make their home in Salt Lake for the present. A laree wedding reception was held in the evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Loraine Bagley in Salt Lake City. A number of relatives ana friends from this city were in attendance. at-tendance. , -o Deadly Anthrax rails Animals Here Another head of stock belonging to John Whimpey died of the dreaded disease, Anthrax, bringing the total number of loss to three head. In reporting re-porting the. case Dr. C. T. Jones, veterinarian of this district. Bald persons per-sons should be very careful in band, ling animals which die from this disease since the human race ar susceptible to this germ which enters the system thru a wound of the hands or other parts of the body.
