Show E DUCATION Walk your child to school Friday This Friday, October 1 is Utah County Walk Your Child to School Day. Parents from all over the valley are invited to accompany their children to school that day to teach them basics about pedestrian safety and to learn firsthand how safe pedestrian routes are between home and school Questions to ask as a parent while walking with your child are: How well does your child obey traffic rules when heshe rides a bike to school? Does your child know how to cross a busy street when there is no crossing guard present? Does your child watch for cars when running to catch the bus? The LHS Shakespeare Company will be bringing home a recital of all the competition material that they used in Cedar City for the Utah Shakespearean Festival High School Competition. Showing for two nights only in Lehi the curtain rises in the LHS auditorium at 7:30 p.m. with general admission; the seats are $3. Lehi Free Press New Utah! - Paper Patch Reflections contest begins this Friday Meadow Elementary children will be able to pick up their applications and forms with the rules and regulations for the 1999 Reflections Contest this Friday, October 1. The theme this year is "Anything is Possible." Entries are due by Monday, November 1. Students can compete in categories which include photography, music, theater, writing, and dance. Meadow school I book (air begins u Meadow Elementary Scholastic Book Fairs begins tomorrow September 30 and continues until Wednesday, October 6. There will be the newest books and learning products from over 150 publishers. The fair will feature traditional children's favorites and the latest works by popular authors and illustrators. The fair is open to the community and patrons can also purchase and donate requested books from the "Classroom Wish List" for any classroom's library. The school hopes to raise money to pay for new playground equipment. It was met with a sizeable and enthusiastic audience. A beautiful performance was put in by Melanie Smith, portraying the pari of Oliver She was supported by ' aii' energetic cast of mostly grade school threw junior high aged children, and several adults. Although they experienced some technical difficulties the technical crew was hard at work lighting the stage and providing adequate sound. The ever apparent problem of microphone shorting out was handled in a timely and professional manner. More importantly than the show itself, this production exposed children to the arts. Much of the audience. was filled with family, however looking around you could see that many ' rows were devoted to friends of the cast hers and younger siblings.. ; After the curtain closed and the production was over, friends met the cast members with encouraging comments. One young envious audience member was overheard telling a cast member that it seemed like he had so much fun, and when would they be doing another show that he could be part of it. Oliver will continue to run through Saturday, October 2.
