Prior to Miss Utah, Miss Lehi, Jennilyn Tucker, spoke about how she overcame obstacles in her life to accomplish her goals. She related how a knee injury almost kept her from accomplishing her goals, but she believed in herself and worked hard. "One month after the surgery I flew to New York and I danced in the Macy's parade, Tucker said, "and two months after that I did compete in both state swim team and state drill team competitions." The theme of McDonough's speech was "make a goal, make a plan and work hard." The goal McDonough focused on was her goal to compete in the Miss America pageant. "A goal is something that you want to do or something that you want to have," McDonough said. She said that she has wanted to compete in the pageant since she was 10 that if I years old. This event is free for 1998 Wildlife Heritage Certificate Holders, but will require a $5 donation for other participants. Lynn Chamberlain, veteran wildlife photographer, will conduct the clinic and focus on the basics of wildlife photography including camera, lens and film selection, composition, and lighting. Proceeds from the donations help fund wildlife programs in Utah. Wildlife Heritage Certificates allow holders to attend numerous field trips and seminars conducted throughout the year, free of charge. Certificates are $15 for adults and $5 for children under age 12. With each certificate, each adult holder must also purchase a $5.25 Wildlife Habitat Authorization for wildlife projects in the state. Church News Abuse presentation The Utah State Attorney General's office will provide a presentations on te abuse of seniors on Feb. 19. Date Festival Outing Seniors participating in the outing to the Date Festival in California need to pay the $399 fee no later than Friday, Feb. 13. Two rooms are still available for those interested in joining the group. The trip will include one night in Mesquite, Nev., two nights in Indio, Calif., two nights San Diego and one night in Las Vegas, as well as admission to the Date Festival, tram ride with dinner, camel and ostrich races, tour to Tijuana and Sea World; some other meals are seven-da- y also included. Menus for the coming week: closed for President's Day. Tuesday, Feb. 17: Lasagna, Scandinavian blend vegetables, orange, white roll and sugar cookies. Wednesday, Feb. 18: Country fried steak, mashed potatoes with gravy, green peas, canned pears, white roll and gelatin cubes. The Lehi Senior Center is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. and offers activities and programs for those 60 years, of age and older. Cedar Fort residents are invited to participate in the programs and meals. A nutritious meal is provided by the Mountainland Association of Governments at a suggested donation of $1.75 per person and is served at noon. Reservations should be made by calling the center, one day prior to attend768-716- ing. Transportation is available to and from the center for 50 cents. To make arrangements to be picked up, call the center, or Mairyam, 768-716- 5, Thursday, Feb. 12: Baked ham, au gratin potatoes, green peas, canned peaches, whole wheat roll and pumpkin cookie. Lehi Stake youth The Young Womanhood Recognition is the culminating honor in the LDS Church's Young Women's program.
