Wildlife biologists will set up spotting scopes, for better eagle viewing, and will answer questions from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., concerning birds of prey in our state. Displays and brochures, at the various locations, will help participants better understand bald eagles and their life cycles. Scott Root, Information and Education Manager for the Division of Wildlife Resources, reports that viewing opportunities abound, as bald eagles spend their winter months in Utah. He explained, "With a pair of binoculars and a little luck, you will find bald eagles throughout Utah in large Cottonwood trees, sitting along fence posts, and perched upon telephone poles, searching for their next meal of rabbit, waterfowl, or fish." Bald eagles are currently reported as com mon occurrences, congregating in groups of 20 or more birds, until March when they traditionally return to Canada. Root will be viewing the eagles and answering questions at the Rush Lake location. Bob Wildlife Walters, Program Coordinator, added , "The best time to view that day depends on the individual. The most comfortable times are late morning or early afternoon, when the warmest temperatures and the best visibility are enjoyed." Warmer temperatures are preferred by families with children, younger although some of the best viewing opportunities await just before sunset, as the eagles return to their roosts after foraging. According to the 1998 Utah Fishing Proclamation, handheld dipnets may be used to take Bonneville cisco only at Bear Dream." The auditions will be held in the auditorium of Lehi High School on Wednesday, Feb. 4 from 5 to 7 p.m.; Thursday, Feb. 5' from 5 to 6:30 p.m.; and Monday through Wednesday, Feb. 9-- from 6 to 8 p.m. Tickets on 7 WW : sary stress and getting too Photographers should bring a telephoto lens, since most birds will only be seen at a distance. Photographers, without the proper equipment, are asked to avoid approaching the animals, which scares them away and ruins the experience for all in attendance. Walters started Bald Eagle Day in 1990, as a way of introducing people to Utah's wildlife. He remarked, "It was a way of arousing Lake from January 1 through February 13, but the dipnet opening may not exceed 18 inches. The limit is 30 fish. In addition to the cisco, fishing is good for cutthroats and whitefish using lures from boats or shore and all cutthroats with all fins present must be released. Only cutthroats with healed clipped fins may be kept. Media center director Donna Gordon uses the kiva not only for her instructions on how to use the library, but also for reading stories to the students. American Heart Association, mm of Tooele). These fish, located nowhere else in the world, rarely grow larger than 7.5 inches and weigh less than two ounces, but anglers from across the state make the journey each year to catch a number of these little delicacies. Many anglers claim that these fish are best when deep fried and eaten before leaving the lake. Larry 756-964- 3 12 Bald Eagle viewing slated Feb. ' Fork 174 W. Main St. Am.
