MAY 31, 1973 Cycling has become the most popular summer sport in Lehi. In view of this Police Chief Berl Peterson today asked that all cyclists observe the following city laws and ordinances pertaining to bicycles. Chief Peterson states that there has been a rash of accidents and because of carelessness on the part of young bicyclists who either are not aware of the bicycling ordinances or are ignoring them. He asks that parents go over the following laws with their children and point out the importance of obeying them: shall not ride more than two abreast except on paths or parts of roadway set aside for the exclusive use of bicycles. Whenever a usable path for bicycles has been provided adjacent to a roadway bicycle riders shall use such path and shall not use the roadway. Sec. Emerging from Alley or Driveway. The operator of a bicycle emerging from an alley, driveway or building shall upon approaching a sidewalk area extending across any alleyway, yield the right of way to all pedestrians approaching on said sidewalk or sidewalk area, and upon entering the roadway shall yield the right of way to all vehicles approaching on said roadway. near-acciden- ts c Riding On Biperson propelling cycles, a. a bicycle shall not ride other than astride a permanent and regular seat attached thereto, b. A lamp emitting a red light visible from a distance of 500 feet to the rear may be used in addition to the red reflector. b. No person shall operate a bicycle unless it is equipped with a bell or other device capable of giving a signal audible for a distance of a least 100 feet, except that a bicycle shall not be equipped with nor shall any person use upon a bicycle any siren or whistle, Every bicycle shall be equipped with a brake which will enable the operator to make the braked wheel skid on dry, level, clean pavement. c c Happiness is a peculiar sensation you get when you're too busy to be miserable. Citizens of Lehi: Due to the efforts of the Feautification Committee, City crews, the National Guard and many, many citizens, there were over 1110 loads of trash hauled from the City during the clean-udrive. This was a tremendous effort and deserves our highest praise. To those who contributed to extend my cleaning up Lehi, thanks for a job well done. With efforts like this by our citizens, Lehi will become the cleanest 1 ' . -- V;---' City in the land. Wednesday, July 25, Lehi at Provo Lehi Firemen Respond to 3 a.m. Alarm Fire Department answered a 3:30 a.m. alarm Wednesday morning at the home of Ron Blue, 820 East 5 North, Lehi. The fire was in the carport section of the home and destroyed the carport and the kitchen door. There was extensive smoke damage inside the house before firemen could exthe blaze. Fire tinguish Department members report several thousands of dollars damage was done to the home. There has not been an American Legion Baseball Program in Lehi for many years and with the resurgence of baseball interest in Lehi, partly due to the revived High School program, an interesting and lively season is in store for Lehi fans. All home games will take place on the High School field at 6:00 p.m. Out of town games will begin at 8:00 p.m. Coach Yates states that a record number of boys have signed up and will be on hand to fight for starting berths. Another hobby is painting and she has finished many beautiful paintings. The Lehi Civic Improvement the Association presented Queen with a tiara, a $40 check and an expense paid trip to the Utah Pageant. Miss Rodeo Each attendant received a $30 check to be spent on a Western Wardrobe for the Roundup. The Roundup Royalty's itinerary includes a trip to Salt Lake on June 12 where they will meet Governor Rampton, the Secretary of State and have dinner at the Rodeway Inn. On June 19 they will appear on Channel Four Television on the Dialing for Dollars show at 2:30 p.m. where they will inform viewers of the coming Roundup celebration. They will also be treated to dinner at Andy's Smorgasbord. Miss Pulham, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Pulham, is a lovely 17 year old brunette and is a participant in High School Rodeo competition all over the state. She specializes in the Barrels and Goat Tying. She is Secretary of the Longhorn Rodeo Club and has qualified to go to the state finals in Barrels and Goat Tying competition. She loves to paint and will study Commercial Art upon completion of her High School career. Miss Peterson, 16, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Peterson. She, too, has been active in High School Rodeo. She runs the Barrels and the Pole Bending races. Genevieve is also an accomplished pianist. Miss Stone, 17, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Stone, Magna. She belongs to the Utah Barrel Association and is an enthusiastic rodeo fan. Proving 20th. TO Spec. 4 Kerry Evans, son of Mr. and Mrs. Duane Evans has been awarded the "Army Commendation Award" for the meritorious services while serving as Gunner in the 4.2 Inch Motar Platoon, and as wheeled-vehicl- e mechanic and TAMMS Clerk for the motor pool of Combat Support Company, 3rd Battalion, 5th Infantry, Fort Kobbe, Canal Zone, during the period of October, 1971 to May, 1973. Parades will take place on each evening, in advance of the rodeo. On Thursday and Friday, the famed miniature parade will spotlight the grace and beauty of Lehi's best crop, the young children, costumed and appearing in the handsome setting of many original and striking floats. Time Extended On Temple Recommends An extension of time on temple recommends expiring April 30, 1973 has been extended by the General Authorities to November 30, 1973. This extended period permits patrons of the Provo Temple to continue temple participation while, arranging for new recommends. Temple attendance in May is lighter than usual, permitting family special groups and families to come to the temple without the possibility of waiting. This is especially true of the days earlier in the week. Arrangements for group participation must be made in advance with a of the member Temple Frequency. The month of June is a favorite month for marriages. More than a hundred marriages are already scheduled. These marriages and the influx of summer visitors usually swell the volume of temple endowments, hence May is the time for stakes and wards to fulfill their goals under less crowded conditions.
