It would seem the part of propriety and certainly courtesy to us to have at least allowed people who know the facts to have been interviewed by Mr. Sidney G. Neslen. He asserts the claims to be true of his own knowledge. While we recognize this as a legal phrase that is used for a document that is given to the public, who in too many instances interprets this to meet proof positive of guilt, we feel this is misleading. You have taken the statements of people who have used every devious means available for months to oppose the county and who in some instances have made public statements that they would force them out of office. We are advised this case has been under the direction of a deputy and you may not have been aware that this was filed in the Clerk's office which at once becomes public knowledge; that it has been circulated widely by the media, at brought to our attention by the news media, we submit to you sir, you have done us an irreparable disservice. You decried such tactics when they were leveled against you during the campaign, and told us such things were unfair and should react as a hurt to those who resorted to such unfair procedures. But now you allow our names to be smeared all over the state, that in the affidavit of Mr. Neslen are true. The harm has already been done, Mr. Hansen. This could cost the people of Utah County a great deal of money in loss of funding and cost of answering by legal processes these charges, as well as a great hurt to us personally. We are sure you will continue your investigation. We welcome it. But please let's look at the whole picture. We respectfully request that when the truth if finally reached by your office, if it proves (which it will) that we have never profited personally one penny as commissioners from the solid waste program, that you publicly announce by the same media that has circulated this information, that there is no basis for such a charge. Anything jess than this on your part, we think is an added insult to men whose lives have been dedicated to service. Board of County Commission, Utah County, State of Utah Karl R. Lyman, Chairman least inferring probable criminal acts by the Commissioners. But by whatever permission or right, it seems premature when the careful investigation on a local level on the request of the same complainants revealed no wrongdoing. This source could have been checked out and certainly avoided this present situation. We do not have any objections at all to your office or any other authorized body checking in detail everything we have done, either as public servants or as regular citizens. In fact, we welcome such action as we have nothing to hide. But when you make such biased investigation in secret, until the whole smelly mess Is 1m' .00 toe Ntff - 4 6 00- r' rfiO3 Yukus Y.
