She is following employment at the BYU library. pre-nursi- ng Athenians Hear Talk on Prison; Elect Officers Ernest Dean Wright, former Lehi resident, and member of the executive board of the Utah State Prison, was the guest speaker for the meeting of the Athenian Club last Wednesday at the home of Mrs. E. L. Chipman. Mr. Wright presented a geographic picture of the philosophy of prison officials, pointing out the particular problems which face them in bringing about rehabilitation of those placed in their care. An interesting account of the vocational facilities of the prison and the programs instigated was given. Among these were listed the making of license plates, beef production and dairying, highway signs and picnic benches and tables. The preparation of beef includes enough for the prison consumption and surplus for sale, was reported. Classification of the men into different categories and their varied attitudes was explained. Mrs. Afton Giles, club president, took charge of the meeting and Mrs. Russell Innes introduced the entitled, speaker. Lehi Dance Set First Affair Is Huge Success of the Lehi The dinner-danc- e Dance Set was one of the most successful events in the club's history. Following the theme "Apil in Paris" a colorful street cafe was set up in typical French style. Red checked table cloths covered the individual tables, on each there was a long red candle in a bottle, which set off the candlelight dinner which was served. The meal was prepared by the Elders Quorum of the Fifth Ward. Serving was done by the Beehive girls of the Fifth Ward. A large Eiffel Tower in black with a glistening top and the word "Ville la France" was the backdrop for the orchestra. A large garden cart filled with flowers was also seen. Large umbrellas were fixed to the pillars in the Armory to add to the street scene. While the serving was being done, Ted Adamson of American Fork played accordion solos. At Intermission time, Sylvia Wclckcr nang and danced several numbers. Ralph Wing took charge of the in- Frank President troductions. Jones of the stake presidency, prayed. With 250 guests, the officers of the Dance Set say It was most successful. Lehila Members Fete Mothers Mrs. Robert Crookston was elected to serve as the new president of the Letitian Club, at the meeting held at the home of Mrs. Riy Southwick- - Mrs. Bill Darling was and Mrs. Wayman Win-sloclub president, took charge of the election meeting. Mrs. Wallace Berry was elected vice president, with Mrs. Wesley Turner, secretary, and Mrs. Arlo Brems, treasurer. The program committee includes Mrs. Don Peterson and Mrs. Robert Karren; the civic committee, Mrs. Kenneth Whimpey, Mrs. Paul Evans and Mrs. Donald Jones, Mrs. David Monson, reporter; Mrs. Ben Judd, historian; Mrs. Ray Southwick, litany, and Mrs. Dale Price, gift chairman. The succeeding meeting was held in Orem at Parks Cafe for a carefree night of enjoyment for the group. w, Members of the Lehila Literary Club entertained mothers and oth- er guests at their annual Mothers Day program, held in the 5th Ward Relief Society Hall last Thursday. A musical prelude was played by Mrs. Lyle Peterson and the prayer given by Mrs. Eugene Hilton. Mrs. Lars Jenkins, president, welcomed the group to the evening of entertainment and Mrs. Phillip Spjut spoke about the Community Concert drive that Is now in progress. The balance of the program introduced by Mrs. Cass Willes included a musical selection, "That Wonderful Mother of Mine," sung by Mrs. Elmo Gray, Mrs. Ronald Price and Mrs. J. W. Cramner, accompanied by Mrs. Peterson. Mrs. Warren Mitchell gave a tribute to mothers entitled "Unselfish Mother Love," followed by a piano solo, "Romance," rendered by Mrs. Peterson. Mr. K. E. Egan of Salt Lake City, spoke to the group about his work as a guide on Temple Square. He pointed out what we Utahns may take for granted, is really a very great attraction to tourists. He explained how he combines the symbolic meanings of the various monuments, the LDS history and facts and figures into an understandable "image" of the Mormon people' and their church. After the program, members and their guests were seated at tables decorated with the club colors of orch:d and silver. Each table was center ed with a crystal bowl, floating early spring pansies. Daughters of club members served the delicious refreshments. They were Naoma Bird, Lynda and Karen Gray, Lois Moore and Catherine Urry. Hostesses for the event included Mrs. Lars Jenkins, Mrs. Cass Willes, Mrs. Russell Hillman, Mrs. Orville Vibbert, Mrs. E. M. Bird and Mrs. Eldon Peterson.' Camp News Bluebell DUP Camp Hears Brannan Story The lesson on the ship Brooklyn and the Samuel Brannan company was presented to the members of the Bluebell Camp, Daughters of Utah Pioneers, by Delia YVbiley. The group met in the Second Ward Church with Cap-ai- n Zina Willes in charge. There were 23 members present. Prayers were offered bv Chaplain EUa Christopherson. Singing was directed by Fern Russon and accom-naie- d by Ethel Hunger. Hostesses were Adelaide Ferman, Jennie Martindale, Myrtle Woffinden and Ela Crabb. The Bluebell DUP Camp will meet Thursday, May 12, at 2 pm. in the Second Ward Relief Society room. Hostesses will be Dalia Worley, Luella Christoffer-son- , Sylvia Hardman and Patti Gray. Fort Wall DUP Camp Follows Easter Theme Fort Wall Camp, Daughters of Utah Pioneers, met at the First-Sixt- h Ward Church with Captain Velma Comer in charge. Mable Lehmberg directed the singing, "Aunt Dinah's Quilting Party," "Spanish Cavalier," and "Daughters of Utah Pioneers." Thelma Webb was the accompanist. Prav-er- s were offered by Chaplains Bushman and Florence Jensen. An interesting history of the old Lehi City Hall, writen by Walter L. Webb, was read by Martha Ann Cox. Beth Young gave the lesson on the Ship Brooklyn. Double daffodils were used in carrying out the Easter theme. Captain Rhea Wan-las- s took charge and Ruth John-io- n gave the lesson on tlie life of Samuel Brannen. Captain Vance presented an interesting history of the life of her great - great - grandmother, Sarah Stedevant Leavitt. She was also the director of the song, "Roek-a-By- e Baby." Prayer was offered by Chaplain Iovinia M. Royle. The May meeting will be the closing session.
