IT PAYS TO SHOP AND SAVE AT There are always several parties enjoying the splendid swimming at ! y I FLOOD DAMAGES The culture of flowers is one of the few pleasures that improves alike the mind and the heart and makes every true lover of these beautiful creations wiser, purer, and nobler. Lord Bacon says: "God Almighty planted a gar den, and indeed it is the purest of human pleasure, it is the greatest re freshment to the spirits of man, with out which buildings and palaces are but gross handiwork." Rapid progress has been made in Utah County in the past few years in home beautification, through landscaping and flower culture. This year we hope to widen the scope of our ex hibits, to conform to this progress. Now is the time to give flowers added attention in rder to secure good bloom for exhibition purposes. Cultivation throughout the garden during August is very necessary. Weeds may not be s much in evidence, but moisture must be conserved in the soil. Asters should not be watered too much, ;for this causes stem-rand destroys the plant before blomoing. Do not allow the soil around the plants to dry out or crack. Top soil should be kept mulched through shallow i cultivation for dahlias. Asters should be carefully watched for aphis. If this pest is found, the plants should be sprayed promptly w'th nicotine sulphate. A thorough spraying with Back Leaf "40" will help to overcome the pest menace to dahliaj, delphinium, and chrysanthemums. Dahlias, delphiniums, and other plants should be properly staked, if this has not already been done. Disbud dahlias, chrysanthemums, asters, and other such flowers to encourage large boom. Keep all flowers picked to prolong the blooming season. Apply liquid manure or commercial fertilizer to dahlias, ad hydrangeas, chrysanthemums every ten days; this increases the size of blossoms. Liquid manure is important in securing plentiful fall bloomng of roses. A little extra care now should give splendid results. V and I MAIN STREET ......
