There ia something aobut a lifetime devotion a love that burns in a steady flame through years of heartache as well as joy. Such a devotion is a rare and beautiful thing and is the subject presented tenderly, lovingly, exquisitely in "Forbidden," the Columbia picture that without a doubt is the greatest thin Barbara Stanwych has done. And this ia no small thing to say, for Miss Stanwyck has never given anything but a true and inspired performance. Her career has been short and not in any way attended by cicus publicity stunts, yet she ranks among then greatest emotional actresses of the screen on sheer merit and performance. "Forbidden" will open Saturday, Sunday and Monday at the Cozy Theatre. So moving was Miss Stanwyck's performance of a woman who sacrificed her own ambitions to be the secret power behind a man's success that there was not a dry eye in the house. She makes Lulu such a real woman, torn between two desires but, in the end, helpless against her great love, that you never lose your respect and admiration for her courage. Adolphe Menjou poves, if such proof is needed, that he can be more than the gay boulevardier. He gives a splendid characterization of Bob Grover, the lawyer who indulges in a flirtation while on a vacation trip without his wife. But this flirtation turned into a love he could not live awe-inspiri- ng LEHI Mrs. Ellen Dowding and Mr. Dewey Dowding were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Dowding, Sunday.
