S. forest service Is taking advantage of the winter months to sreparc for the fire season in the ntermountain area next year. They are converting salvaged parachutes, obtaned from air force at Hill AFB, into cargo chutes. More than 800 salvage parachutes have been turned over to the forest service to be converted into cargo chutes to enable them to drop food, tools, beds and other materials to fire suppression crews. In the primitive, areas, pi the mfemountlin states where there are no roads, taking materials in by air is about the only proctical way to get food and equipment to the crews. Last year was one of the worst fire seasons in this area, and the forest service made good use of 400 salvaged parachutes previously obtained from Hill AFB to feed a thousand men by air for an extended period of time. The salvaged parachutes are being taken to the forest service loft in McCall, Idaho, where they wil be converted into cargo chutes to be used with cargo bags that have 8lso been declared salvagable by Miss Helen Kimball ' , nfgftwHd is suffering from lace and back wounds.
