The monitor was donated to the hospital by the Hospital Vol- unteers. The doctors are very pleased to have this machine for their use, said Bonnie L. Wareham, operating room supervisor. The video recorder monitor is used primarily by orthopedic surgeons on knee surgery. According to Mrs. Wareham, the physicians obtain permission from a patient to video tape the surgery. The tape is then shown to the patient, usually during a follow-u- p visit to the physicianss office. These videos are used to explain what took place during surgery, said Mrs. Wareham. The restaurant, still without a name, was to have opened at the beginning of the school year, but is not yet complete, said a school district official. It is scheduled to open January 28, 1985, the beginning of the second semester, said Walter Ulrich, the vocational education director for the Davis County school district. A meeting held Sept. 12 will establish an advisory committee to decide whether the restaurant should be opened to the public or to the staff. When first proposed, the school restaurant was to have been open to the public. This sparked a controversy between school district officials and Utah Restaurant Association members, so the policy was amended to allow faculty and possibly parents into the capacity restaurant. The advisory board will make recommendations on the issue to the school district. However, Ulrich said that it is not our desire to compete with the community and local restaurants. We would be preparing people who would be acceptable employees for these people. URA officials said that if opened to the public, the restaurant would compete with private industry. Some local restaurant owners said that the taxes they paid to the school district would in turn be used against them if the restaurant were open to the Ten to 12 students will be enrolled in the quantity foods program at the school next semester, to operate the cafe. They will be supervised by DeAnn Judd, a home economics teacher. The students will be prepared for entry-levpositions in the food service industry, Ulrich said. We will train these students so that when they exit from school, they will have the necessary public. Restaurant owners also said they could continue to provide el skills." The restaurant will be utilized as both a cafe and a classroom. The cafe will be opened during lunch hours and will sell snacks to students after hours. Students enrolled in the program will be involved with the preparation and serving of the food, as well as with cost analysis, planning menues and ordering food products. The restaurant is waiting for final equipment to be installed, Ulrich said, including cabinets. A dishwasher and sinks purchased a few years ago will be used. They were bought a few years ago, but there was no facility to place them in, he said. An ice machine was recently purchased for the restaurant also. Many Utahns Trust Their Credit Unions Chamber of Commerce Starts New Committee SUSAN TANNER HOLMES Review -- Correspondent Where to save, borrow, or get good financial services can be a time consuming past time. Many Utahns are credit union members and with the new changes in membership rules the once closed credit union market is now opening up. 'While some credit unions are expanding their memberships, many still have a distinct field of membership. There are advantages to both types of membership, said Don Bleazard, president of the Utah Credit Union League. When shopping for a credit union, look for more than the service you want going in. Can the credit union offer the services ybu want now and in the future? said Bleazard. One of the most important things to look for and the hardest for the average person to determine is safety and soundness. Utah law dictates that all credit unions must be insured.
