Help from their opponent or not, this is the second outing in a row Woods Cross has beaten a seemingly insurmountable foe. After their poor start this season, many had written them off as lost after graduating all the regulars from last years state championship team. Woods Cross coach Clyde Jackson gave his assistant coaches and his team credit. First, I want to give my two assistant coaches credit for a great scouting report, and second I want to credit the team for playing smart and listening to our coaching, Jackson said. These kids have pride and they wanted this one bad. We have just had to realize we are not as talented as we were last year. We have struggled, but now we are beginning to come together, Jackson said. Jn the Bountiful locker room after an outing that produced a first quarter and a three-poithird quarter, all coach Mike Hall could do was shake his head in amazement. On offense we were terrible. It could have been much worse for the Falcons. Trailing by 11 points in the second half, they fought back to take the lead in the final minute only to see Roy hit four key free throws and Coes shot ripple the strings to secure the win. - That was a big win for us, said Royal coach Ted Smith. We didnt design the play that way, you never design a 20 foot shot at the buzzer, but we wanted to get some motion and move the ball around the perimeter and hope you get a good shot. When you get down to three seconds its simply the man with the ball takes the shot, but Mike has the ability and had a good game. Coe finished the game with points and a sparkling defensive performance. Clearfield Coach Craig Hansen also gave credit to the Royals play. They really played well. I watched them play earlier in the year and they didnt play that well then. We hope to and plan to turn it around this year. We worked hard and didnt get the reward we felt we earned tonight. We played hard and came back when it would have been easy to give up but they (Roy) got the last shot and it went in. Well have to wait until next week and get ready for Weber. The Falcons, now 5 over-a- ll will face the Weber Warriors next Friday. The Warriors have not been the most fortunate team around this year but Hansen noted that they are probably the most improved team in the league. Roy will host Bonneville Friday at Roy.
