Show 2A Lakeside Review South, Wednesday, Feb. 1, 1984 Stress Muscles Can Help Cope With Daily Stress CHERYL ARCHIBALD Review Correspondent Of every visBOUNTIFUL it made to a doctor, 80 percent of the complaints are related to d diseases such as asthma, hypertension, migraine headache and heart disease. And there are doctors who believe that every illness is at least parstress-cause- tially caused by stress. Type A personalities have long been thought of as those most likely to suffer from stress related diseases, but doctors have found that not all Type A personalities are victims of stress. Those who also have feelings of aggression, hostility, and anger are prime targets for the illnesses caused by stress. What can be done to prevent the diseases? Dr. Russell M. .Shields, doctor of internal medi- cine spoke on the problem and its solutions at the Lakeview Hospitals Health and Wellness Conference. The body releases adrenal hormones in response to stress, Shields explained, and prevention of disease comes by controlling and reducing stress. He -- recommended that rather than turning to pills or putting up with a stressful environment, those who suffer from stress do the following: Build stresss muscles. Each time you handle stress successfully, you will become stronger for the next crisis," he said. Escape the trap by taking a break. Some people feel that they have to be perfect and that they dont need time. But they soon find that they become full of stress. Take a coffee break, get out, get away for a few minutes, have fun," Shields said. When you come back you'll be I refreshed." Communicate. Find a confidante. Husbands dont express their stress as much as their wives do," Shields said, because society teaches that men dont express their stress." He recommended that people find a way to talk to someone about their stressful situations. Relax. There are relaxation techniques that can help, and Shields recommended other ways besides hypnosis. One way is to sit in a comfortable posi ""syr" the city address. Heading the list of flood control projects are street storm drain improvements for Hughes Street (350 E. 1200 N.). Also on the list is completion of the Pitford Acres storm drainsub drain system. Other major flood control improvements include debris basins on Ricks, Barnard, Parrish and Deuel creeks. Also included are storm drain improvements on, 400 South; Shields related. That is, of course, an extreme but he said you will feel better if you exercise. , Dont put stress on yourself. Some people have a martyr attitude and feel that they have to do everything. Shields said that those types will do great for awhile, but will eventually build up stress and give out. Take control of your life. Live up to your own expectations and not someone elses. BOUNTIFUL The Bound-- , ful Redevelopment Agency has .paid off a $152,000 loan from t Bouptiful City and has received $670,000 from the sale of property during the past year," Randy Sant, Bountiful RDA executive director, told Bountiful City ofli-- ; cials during a Bountiful RDA T meeting. The RDA borrowed $ 52,000 from the city when the agency ran out of money earlier last year. The funds were used so the 1 agency WX could continue operations. The city had granted a loan to the ageqcy of up to $350,000. Sant said the $670,000 from the sale of property could be used for a downtown revitalization project. Sant said the agency will pay off a purchase of the Bountiful Medical Center property this year. Also, property purchased for a land swap in Centerville has been paid for, he added. The Centerville property will be used as part of a land swap with the Utah Department of clerk. Judge Robert T. Matheson stated in the Jan. 17 city council meeting that the state recommendations for Utah Justices of the Peace are $ 2,000. Added to that the state recommends a stipend for a clerk. 1 Woods Cross Justice of the Peace Matheson proposed a $10,000 salary for himself and a $2,996 salary for clerical help. So far, Judge Matheson has handled the judicial system in Woods Cross by himself. Now he is asking for clerical assistance. The number of traffic violations alone have increased so much, said the Judge, that clerical help is crucial for him to be able to carry out all of his tasks properly,. Councilman Raymond Thom as suggested a motion to approve Mathesons proposal. The motion was approved unanimously. The Woods Cross Police Department was praised by City Recorder Alan T. Low. Low was alone in the City Hall on the Thursday previous' to the Jan. 17 council meeting, when a man rushed in begging for assistance. Low said he questioned the person, trying to determine the nature of his problem. He suspected the man was suffering from a coronary attack, since he indicated pain and shortness of breath. He alerted the medical emergency units of Woods Cross, via the city police department. ' Low said the department responded with efficiency and speed. Woods Cross Police Chief Niles Stahle was invited to lecture at Woods Cross High School drug, alcohol, and smoking abuse seminar, Jan. 17. BARRY KAWA Review Staff The complete reorganization of the citys staff and administration to centralize authority and responsibilities is another top goal, Blackburn said. Other goals include a return of func- way. .UDOT currently has a road shed on the 500 South property. The UDOT property will be used for an RDA project involving office and commercial buildings. Sant noted the RDA works separately from the city, although the RDA has contracted with the city to rent office space in the city hall and to use city staff to help with RDA matters. Error Is Corrected WEST BOUNTIFUL story in last weeks Lakeside view was in error. A Re- The story, which reported on a recent West Bountiful City Council meeting where a flood prevention plan calling for the rerouting of Mill Creek was approved, quoted West Bountiful Mayor Grant Sccrist as stating Phillips Petroleum has offered to contribute 25 percent of the cost of the project. Secrist stated during the meeting that the West Bountiful City Council would ask Phillips Petroleum to contribute 25 percent of the cost of the project. The Lakeside Review regrets the error.
