One of these basic attacks is. the premise that schools arent teaching students what they dent apathy. The student must gain the spark of pride to improve himself or herself in order to receive all the benefits possible from hisher education. The student has the opportunity to learn. High school offers courses from basic education classes, such as English, history and math, to such classes as physiology, calculus, and data processing. With such a wide range of courses available, this cannot be used as an excuse for a poor education. Also, most teachers of these classes are excellent. Granted, some teachers are more interesting than others, but most have the information to give to the student if he will just reach out and take it. The average teacher is geniunely concerned for the welfare of his students and tries very had to interest them. We each must gain the inner drive and desire to improve ourselves. This cannot be instilled by the school system or the teacher. Here we, as students, must each accept the responsibility of growing up. Others place the blame on the quality of the school itself, such as the variety of courses offered or the drifting from basic requirements. Future Is Bright By MARCENE HELMS Roy High School 3F FOUNDATION Technology tf Summer programs and work study are other factors in increased opportunity. Many high school students are given the chance to take college classes during the summer or even during the school year. Since high school is geared towards college, these programs are very effective in getting students interested in college and in providing the opportunity to advance and better oneself. Work study is another program which is also very successful. This program is for students who have decided on a career or are learning a certain trade or ability. It provides a way to go to both school and work, fulfilling the needs of both. A college education is encouraged and all these programs in the secondary schools prepare for college. Many more SCHOLARSHIPS AND students are going to college for the education needed to get a HOOP SHOOT CONTESTS FOR YOUNG AMERICANS good job. Jobs are scarce and an education is very important. Students appear to be better educated and advance in their fields. Because of this a greater percentage of students are CONGRATULATIONS graduating. College is where most of the opportunities come and a person should think twice before letting a college education slip by. College is a great place for bettering oneself and for making ones life richer and fuller. As a result, great individuals are formed. These indivuals are the future of America.
