Sand Ridge Teacher Is Honored Joe Hull, a German teacher at Sand Ridge Junior High School in Roy, was recently selected as the Outstanding Foreign Language Teacher of the Year in Utah. ROY The annual award is presented by the Utah Council of Foreign Language teachers. Hull was cited for successfully introducing the total immersion system of foreign language instruction to secondary schools in Utah. . JOE HULL The total immersion system focuses on oral instruction, rath- er than reading and writing. During class periods, Hulls students hear and speak only BT120AT Hull combined two existing methods of teaching foreign languages to develop his unique approach to total immersion instruction. His system has been chosen as the model German program for the state. Hull lives in Hooper with his wife, Sandra, and their three children. .
