A dozen or so small faces bob up and down in the pool and seem almost lost in the long lines of ripples that follow them as they paddle in slow, graceful movements across the pool. One of these small faces belongs to Elmer G. Thorum, a He lets spry, active a big smile envelop his face as he spots a photographer to the side of the pool taking his picture while he swims. He stops to talk to the photographer and then turns to me. Thorum is repeating a daily pool. The two met while swimming at the pool. And since October she has offered him rides each day. Hes a good guy, she smiles. He always opens the door for me. Thorum used to swim each day with his wife. But she passed away three years ago. That hurt me more than anything else," Thorum admits about his wifes passing. I want to go up and rejoin her, but I cant do that. Ive got to live it out here. She was an awfully nice lady. She never had any use for any vulgar language. But that damn cancer. She couldnt lick it. The doctor told her: Dont you ever quit swimming.
