Koles in 'Oklahoma' By RUTH MALAN beautiful morning ... drifts through Happy Hollow on the cool evening breezes, as the efforts of many diligent workers come to life in the production of Oklahoma. The play opened Monday evening and continues through Friday, July 1, under r direction of Margaret Brough, with the help of a talented staff. It is a production for the annual Kaysville Heritage Harvest Days. Among the cast of Oklahoma is the family of Ed and Louise Lore. Each day as we auditioned for parts another Lore would try out, said Mrs. director-produce- Brough. I asked a brother how many children were in their family. He said 12. All 14 family members are in our production. The whole family sings with the chorus, with Don, Steven and Laura as dancers. Other members of the family are : Linda, Susan, David, Allen, Dean, Donna, Diana, John and Sharon. Lore plays the part of Slim. He played Abraham Lincoln in a college play and has enjoyed being in plays since higlrschool. Mrs. Lore was in plays and roadshows when younger and even directed some of them. In 1976 the family produced a bicentennial musical that was written by a friend. One daughter was named Best Actress at Clearfield High. Seven of the Lore children play the piano. Other instruments they play are the violin, bass, accordian and clarinet. The three older children have completed missions for the LDS Church, all three overlapping at some time. The boys who were 15 and 17 years old got jobs and helped to support the brother and sisters on their missions. Lindas mission was served in Canada, Susans in Tennessee , and Davids in Michigan. David just returned from his mission on Saturday, then went to his first practice and participated in t.he final practice of Oklahoma. ' Of the Lore children, ranging in age from two to 23 years old, nine are still at home while three attend Brigham Young University. Its so good to be all together again, stated Mrs. Lore. It has been fun and weve really enjoyed practicing. Whenever someone does something the whole family gets involved. If they run for a class office, we do it together. We even work on the Eagle Scout projects together. Allen and Dean, twins, have completed the require in our ments to be Eagle Scouts although they wont be 12 until September. During preparation for the production the Lore family was evacuated from their home in Fruit Heights, because of flood danger. They spent a week in a motel. I dont think the family ever missed a practice, said Mrs. Brough. We would sandbag for five to seven hours a day then go back to the motel and swim. It was quite a vacation, explained Mrs. Lore. Their home was unharmed by the damaging flood, but they lost their pasture. It took all of the topsoil and left huge rocks and sand, said Mrs. Lore. Its been quite a challenge to keep the children quiet and occupied during practices. I found some cold cereals Id never heard of. Mrs. Lore has a tent to house the children during the production. The performances of Oklahoma are being dedicated to the memory of Carol Collett who died May 22. It was Mrs. Colletts suggestion to have an outdoor pageant performed in Kaysville. She contributed both her time and her means to the cultural arts of Kaysville and Fruit Heights. Kaysvi lie Pol ice Join System KAYSVILLE - Kaysville Police Chief Lyle Larkins says citys long overdue participation in the state public safety rettirement system will mean Kaysville will no longer be a training ground for other city police departments. The city council last week aphis proved joining the system which allows law enforcement officers to retire after 20 years of service. Previously, the department was under the city employees retirement system which desig nates a minimum retirement age of 55, with 30 years of ser- vice. According to Larkins, Kaysville is the last city in Davis County to join the retirement program which was passed by the state legislature in , 1969. : Larkins said police officers differ from most city employees where some are unable to effectively handle the job after they reach a certain age. He said four officers have left the department to go to other cities in the past two years. They come here to get their training certification, fill their obligation and then seek employment elsewhere, I think the main he said. reason they go somewhere else is because of a better retirement program. The public safety retirement system allows an officer who is hired at age 21 to retire at 41. However, the officer can continue to work after hjs service with retirement benefits one-ye- ar 20-ye- ar increasing each additional year.
