Show Home Prices Vary Around Country A survey of members of the Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate Service shows distinct differences in the price of a typ- - icai tnree-oearoo- "family home in diverse areas of the United States. More than 450 brokers were polled about home prices in a nationwide canvass during April 1983. The housing cost comparison survey shows prices for a family home in 75 communities selected to represent different populations and reg- priced ions. The home described for the survey is a typical, house with three bedrooms and two bathrooms the type of home a moderate income family might purchase. The price cited is the average sales figure for the subject homes in the markets sampled. For the best buy in housing, the family cost-conscio- Missouri. A home there would cost $43,500. At the other end of the scale, a family moving to the resort community of Vail, Colo. , should be prepared to pay a hefty price of $225,000. In general, the survey found that the West Coast is the highest-region, along with Alaska and Hawaii. Look to pay $150,000 for a family abode in Thousand Oaks, just outside Los Angeles. A similar family home would cost $130,000 in Hilo, Hawaii, and $125,000 in Anchorage, Alaska. Sunbelt locations follow the Pacific states in cost.
