But, more importantly, you will become a better boater. . Another service provided by the auxiliary is a safety check on your boat. We check certain items and make sure that your vessel is up to state safety requirements. If it is, you are issued a decal indicating so. Usually these decals will prevent a boarding by the local law enforcement agency. Most important, though, you know you and your family will be safer on the water. With the boat show upon us and spring not too far away, the time has arrived to put our thoughts toward getting on the water. Of course the first thought we have is to get the boat ready, but that shouldn't be first. First we should get ourselves ready. How? Take the boat class taught by the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary. If you havent taken one, this is the time, and if you have, perhaps a refresher is in order. There is no charge for the course, just for the books, which are not required but recommended. There are several classes starting this month in the valley and four beginning in Weber and Davis Counties.
