But if you side with Hamlet in believing the plays the thing then youll have to admit that the triple overtime thriller was something special. In the words of Cyprus coach Dave Peck: "What 39 a game! For further turn information contact the Red Jackets coach, Mel Gilbert at In this play there were plenty of heroic performances to go around-fro- m both sides. It was as if neither team wanted it to end. Cyprus mounted a gallant drive late in the game to presumably put the game on ice. But Bountiful responded with a brilliant drive of their own that culminated in a J.T. Clark field goal which tied the, score and forced an overtima From there to the finish, the teams combined for 31 points and plenty of high drama. Each team delivered the big line, each team missed its cua Each struggled to hang on, hoping not to be the one that blinked. And finally, after scoring their second overtime touchdown, the Braves played their gamble by attempting a two point conversion which, if successful, would have launched an ecstatic homecoming victory celebration. Instead it left the Pirates with plenty to cheer about The Braves hoped to fool Cyprus with a fake PAT on the play but when quarterback Zach Jacobs looked toward his intended pass receiver, Clark, who was supposed to be ignored by the Pirate defense, he saw that the kicker had plenty of attention. Jacobs tried instead to force a pass in the middle of the field and the ball ended in the arms of Cyprus linebacker Dustin Zufelt The interception ended the game and sent the Bountiful faithful home disappointed. "What can you say about this game, said Peck. "We lost a four overtime game to Murray last year Fm Just so happy we finally had one go our way Cyprus got a wonderful game from senior running back Shane Wood who gained 161 yards on 28 carries and scored four touchdowns including two in the overtime periods. He scored on runs of 10 and four yards in the extra frames and gained 18 of the Pirates 21 overtime yards. Wood's stellar performance was balanced by the outstanding play of Jacobs and running back Drew Eastman. Jacobs completed 13 passes for 161 yards, three aerials going for touchdowns, and ran for another score. One of his touchdown tosses was a strike in overtime play Meanwhile, Eastman was rushing for 102 yards on 17 tries and scored once in the first period and again in the overtime Jacobs and Eastman were aided by the play of Matt Snow who had 75 yards in eight carries and Brady Bahr who scored two touchdowns on passes from Jacobs. The game was close from the start with Cyprus going to the locker room at halftime with a 17-- 14 edge. Bountiful got a big break in the third period line when Alex Garwhen it took over on the cia fumble a Clark punt The Braves scored three plays later when Jacobs hooked up with Baht That score gave Bountiful a 21-- 17 lead as the fourth period got underway The Pirates then mounted a big 10 play drive of sea BRAVES pg.
