The Das is County Association for Retarded Children was organized in 1956. and has undergone changes over the years, reflecting the need of those they serve. Primarily they helped children in the beginning, but those children grew to adulthood with special need of their own. The name wa later changed to the Association for Retarded Citizens, and that name wa later shortened to Arc of Davis County, when residents grew tired of the label retarded, and simply wanted to be known as people first, said Aldrich. Today they sponsor a variety of activities throughout the year such as the annual Antelope Island Bike Ride in July, an evening nde along the causeway. Parand ticipants get a refreshments are served at the end of the trek. This fund-raishelps to provide both funds and exposure for this organization. There were many times when site had to call for extra help from the district or other sources. But the efforts paid off. The district kind of frowns on this. They wanted us to buy new computers at $1,300 to $1,500 apiece. I had the choice of maybe buying 14 or 15 new computers for the whole school or getting the old ones up and going and having enough for everybody. There might not be any ;money for computers next year, said Culp. Now there are 70 computers in the school which are working ;and almost all have been donated and upgraded. . As she has searched out differ-lent activities on the Internet, Culp became aware of a geography contest.
