But six years earlier his leg was up in a different sort of way -traction. Greg suffered a severely broken leg when he was 5, and his family didnt think he would ever be able to walk normally again, let alone recent Hershey Track and Field Northern District youth meet. Running is something doctors didnt think he would do. They thought he would walk with a limp. We didnt know if hed walk again and now hes running, said his father, Sterling Dixon. Greg broke his leg while stomping leaves into a garbage can while at his grandmothers home in Pay-soHe and his brother Carl were helping their mother rake and dispose of the fall leaves. Both Greg and Carl were inside the garbage can jumping on the leaves when the can tipped over and Greg twisted n. his leg. His knee really swelled out, said his mother, Jan Dixon. His leg had twisted and he received a spiral fracture to the femur. We thought they could just set it and we could go," recalls his mother. But thats not what happened. A ride in the ambulance to Lakeview Hospital in Bountiful was followed by 21 days in traction. He would twist around in funny positions while he was in traction, said Jan Dixon, but that seemed to be beneficial to the healing process. He was so small that the weights would pull him down to the foot of the bed and one of his parents would have to lift him while the other lifted the weights to reposition LAYTON - The Layton Arts and Humanities Council is sponsoring a coloring contest for kids in conjunction with the upcoming musical, Into the Woods. They practice every evening at the Davis High track. Sterling Dixon ran the mile in track and he also competed in the pole vault as a student. Jan Dixons family was also very athletic, so running came second nature to the Dixon children. This year the citys track pro- gram was cancelled, but the Dixon boys competed in the Hershey track meet. Not only did Greg place first in the 400 meters, but Carl took first in the 200 meters. I was going to do the long jump but I was too dehydrated after the 400 meters, Greg said. The Windridge Elementary student just finished the fifth grade.
