The council is studying a request from Parks and Recreation Director Richard Hunt that the city hold a bond election to get voters okay to seek financing for a center which Hunt estimates will cost about $5 million. Hunt said he felt the council should move ahead with a bond election, based on the results of a survey the parks department conducted during the past ' two weeks. Hunt said a large majority of the survey ballots returned indicated support for the center. Councilman Lynn Wood, who oversees the parks department, said more than 500 ballots were returned that indicated strong support for the idea of constructing a recreation center, and he said each of those ballots probably represent an average of four people in the household, because most were signed by couples who had families. Hunt told the council it would cost the city between $1,200 and $1,300 to hold a bond election, but said he had 150 people who had said they would serve as volunteers to help cut costs. Hunt, Wood and others from the parks and recreation department have toured a recreation center built by the city of Orem and Hunt said a similar center could probably be built for the $5 million figure. Wood said the Orem facility had incorporated most of the items the Layton committee had been considering. IMSStSESS car, through tha tummar?
