All agreed that it was obvious that the voter had voted for Weller, and when City Manager Damon wards looked up the rules it was determined that a ballot of this type should be counted. This placed the two men in a tie. Edwards then decided a new recount with new judges would be held Nov. 10 and asked both candidates to be present. The new judges, Edwards, and the two candidates met for nearly three hours to recount the ballots three more times. At the end of this time it was determined that Weller had picked up two votes while Loertcher stayed the same. The final count was 272 to 271 in favor of Weller. one of By CAROL WIGHT Review Correspondent CLINTON After several recounts of votes in one race resulted in a surprise winner, newly elected officials Dennis C. Smith, Joanne Hansen, and Steve Weller were declared official elected victors on Nov. 10. Smith will take over as mayor in January, while Mrs. Hansen and Weller will take council seats. The election of Weller was a surprise turnabout as Fred Loertcher won the election by one vote on the first count.' Weller called for a recount, which was conducted Nov. 7. After three recounts, it was determined that the final vote, now 269 to 270 instead of 270 to 271, still declared Loertcher the winner.
