Show 4 Davis Standard December 10, 1998 Thursday, Scout donates money from playhouse Eagle service project inspired by nieces medical struggle Standard-Examine- r m RlPUCTfCECAN I NGI correspondent OUTH WEBER -- When Jonathan Gleaves year-old niece had to have open heart surgery, he wanted to be able to do something for her. Gleave, 13, was already working toward earning his Eagle Scout rank. He decided for his service project, hed build a fancy playhouse, donate it to the Festival of Trees and have all of the money donated to Primary Childrens Medical Center in his niece, Hollys, honor. Shes home now and doing just fine, Gleave said. But I really want the money to go to the hospital in her honor for people who cant afford medical expenses for their children. The house is just like a regular home, only smaller. It has electricity, hardwood floors, base molding, glass windows, a fancy roof with capped edges, a redwood front porch and lofts off to each side. My dad's business donated the money for supplies and we expect to raise between $8,000 and $10,000, Gleave said. Last Saturday, workers from Home Depot picked up the house and took it to Salt Lake City, where people will be able to bid on it dunng the Festival of Trees. $159.95 1 -- 1 PLAYHOUSE: Jonathan Gleave, 1 3, stands in the playhouse he built as his Eagle Scout service project Weber.
