Trees are decorated by families and organizations. Some are dedicated to members of their family or to friends who have died. This holiday extravaganza requires 12 months of planning and preparation by myriads of volunteers, many who have worked on the Festival for over 20 years. Chairwoman Earlene Rex of Salt Lake City and her Kae Rasmussen of Alpine and Berty Wardle of Sandy are asvolunsisted by an teer board who each enlists committees of 10 or more. Approximately 1,000 men and women are involved in the planning of the event. And thousands rs contribute trees, wreaths, centerpieces, gingerbread houses, and handmade of others items for the specialty shops. "For 27 years, the Festival of Trees has ushered in the Holiday Season, said Rex. "But the festival is more than trees and lights, shops and entertainment. It brings together people from all different backgrounds and interests for one purpose - the love of children. Every penny raised from the sale of each cookie and cake, and every tree and wreath is a gift of love to children at PriChildren's Medical Cen- - mary They tied waxed thread around the ornaments for a place for the ornament hangers, she Besides trees, the festival features an Aisle of W'reaths, Gingerbread Village, Centerpieces and Collectibles, Playhouse Plaza, and Santa's Doll Shop. In addition, there is a Gallery of Gifts, Sweet Shoppe, Scone and Cinnamon Roll Chalet, and Cookie Cottage. A Tribute Tree has been decorated with handmade ornaments that the public can purchase in the name of friends, family members, teachers and others they wish to recognize. The ornaments will be sent to those being honored immediately after the festival ends. There will also be a "Gift of Love Concert" held in the Salt Palace Grand Ballroom, Wednesday. The popular holiday concert stars local artists Afterglow (Kevin Peay and Joel McCausland), Jon Schmidt, Liz Wolfgramm, Peter Breinholt, Michael Dowdle and Brett Raymond. Tickets for the concert may be purchased for $10 at Primary Childrens Medical Center or at any R.C Willey store.
