About 1,500 tons of stuff was taken off the lot. In a couple of weeks, the city add some fill dirt and grade the property and in a couple of years it will be set it up as a storm runoff detention pond. It took about eight weeks for -the cleanup. Thats nothing com- pared to how long the city has tried to get the owner, Marvin Allgood, to clean the site. Records date back to the 1950s, when the property was part of Laytona, showing that the city, council asked Allgood to tidy up. ' But nothing was done then.,, and it wasnt until late last year will that Layton Assistant Attorney Steve Garside successfully found a legal way for Allgood to clear the property. The junkyard violated current city zoning codes and the land works naturally to gather runoff. So, Layton bought the property from Allgood for $70,000 last September and will convert it in- to a drainage pond later this year. Garside said that nothing unusual was found during the clean- up. We didnt bother to call the Garside archeologist, said. There was nothing weird. No Jimmy Hoffas. HOME IS WHERE THE Standard-Examin- er IS DELIVERED.
