The county also asked if Clinton would consider paying a portion of the cost of new pipe in West Point, as they need to put in pipe instead of pipe to accommodate Clintons use of the pipe. The council will consider that request. It was reported that many residents are concerned with high weeds in neighboring fields and the 30-inc- h 15-in- ch fire- - hazard they create. City maintenance men have been contacted by these residents who have offered to pay to have the weeds mowed. The City Council gave permission for the weeds to be mowed for pay provided a release is signed by the owner of the property. City Manager Damon Edwards said a local bank is willing to turn the Lazy L subdivision over to the city if the city will accept liability for it and contract out the repair of curbs and gutters. A motion to accept this agreement was approved. Clinton residents Thomas and Diane Murphy told the council they have problems with sandy water. Their residence at 683 W. 2200 N. has been plagued with extremely sandy water for the three years that they have lived in the old home, they said. Many of their neighbors in Peppermint Park have had the same problem. Some of their problems have been sand .in fixtures, valves that wont close, ruined washing machines, and broken water meters, Murphy said. Murphy said 19 meters in his neighborhood have been replaced. He has also installed a new water line from the meter to his house. The council responded, after much discussion as to the cause of the problem, that a trial period is needed to see if recent flushing of the pipes ha6 done any good. If not, the consideration of installing sand traps would be the next step, Edwards said. Also, it must be determined what sand, if any, is coming through from Weber Basin Water Conservancy District. Murphy said he will be glad to keep the mayor informed and that he was tired of putting his kids in the bath and finding out they were not the dirty ones. Police Chief Leroy Webb reported on the recent enforcement of the ordinance restricting oVemight parking. He said for the past six or seven months about 100 tickets per month have been written. The desired result of this ordi-- , nance was a reduction in accidents, vandalism, burglaries and other crimes, but no change was noted, Webb said. The only positive outcome was fewer cars on the street. The next parasite to study is the common flea. This is the most widespread of all external parasites. We are fortunate that the flea is not a common problem in our area but does cause severe problems in many areas of our country and throughout the world. Flea bites can be irritating and many animals eventually develop a sensitivity (allergy) to flea saliva which results in skin conditions. If a cat develops a flea allergy, the presence of only one flea is sufficient to make the skin break out in eruptions all over the body. Fleas also suck blood which can lead to anemia in debilitated cats and young kittens. Fleas transmit bacterial and viral diseases as well as tapeworms, and some protozoan infections. Most cat owners can recognize an adult flea. These fleas feed and breed on the cat. Their eggs fall off . and develop into larvae and then apartments from a vacation during pupa, stages which can survive for which the pet was boarded or as long as 12 months. Adult fleas traveled with them, to find their can live only 10 days away from ankles covered within minutes with their host, but live from 6 to 38 scores of tiny fleas. months on thejr host. Rentmeisters Don't Accept The Lowest Air Conditioning Bid And Hope For The Best Buying an air conditioning system for your home is sohnething that requires proper consideration, not impulse buying. Taking the .first or lowest bid just to get the system in and be comfortable may be a big mistake. With reasonable maintenance, a central air conditioning system may have a life of many years, This is not true of many products the average person buys. How long do you keep a new car How many years can you wear your newest suits Doesnt it make sense that if youre going to buy something to last many years, you should also spend more time considering what youre buying with your money Impulse buying can mean disaster if your contractor doesnt make the many specific calculations necessary to determine the exact ' Because a central air conamount of cooling your home needs. and distribution the ditioning system the chance for error is doubled. The wrong size wont work with a correct distribution system and visa versa. A unit that is too small cannot possibly remove enough heat and humidity from the air and may have to operate continuously just to lower the temperature a few degrees. This raises operating costs. Too large' a unit can cause the system to cycle or operate only during high heat and humidity levels, causing sudden blasts of cold air with longer periods of high temperature and moisture levels. A completely oversized system (a common fault of some contractors who would rather be safe than sure); has the same effect on the cooling coil of the unit as your refrigerator when it needs defrosting. High air velocity causes the air back up and frost the coil... because it just cant be forced through the distribution system. Often, a whistling noise sounds at registers in different parts and permanent damage may occur in the unit. In all cases of improper sizing, the life of the unit is affected. In order for you to get your moneys worth you can never surpass the competence and purpose of a good contractor who specializes in air conditioning. Thats why it might be worth putting up with another week of discomfort in order to be sure that the bid you select is the right one for your home. It will save you money in the long run.
