Show .Jagc 6B, Lakeside Rosiest, December 1, 1980 fto Foe To If -- LAYTON The Layton Lancers had a pretty good basketball seasson last year. They not only made it to the state tournament, but found themselves playing East in the final round of the consolation bracket. The 1980 Lancer cage squad is pretty much the same kind of team as last year that is, theyre still quick, stubborn and short. The only difference is that they're even shorter and have almost no experience. And in order to make the tournament this year, coach Doug Moon knows he has some hard work ahead. Here is how Moon sums up the 1980 Lancer starting squad: Forward Layne Sackett Hes the only player from last years team returning with any experience. Hes a good shooter from anywhere on the court and he passes well. The hell be a only thing he needs to learn is defense 6-- 2, good one. Jeff Pearce -6-- 2, Guard Hell be our floor general and Im sure we can depend on him to do a good job at that. Hes also a good shooter, hustles and plays the best defense on the team. Center Brian Cunningham He probably works harder than anyone on the . team. He doesnt have much heighth for the center position, but he plays taller because of his great leaping ability and he knows how to position for rebounds. He played the post position on the junior varsity team last year so he does have some experience there. The main thing he needs to work on is his shooting and Im sure hell get that going soon. Guard , Tom Watson Without a doubt, he is the most aggressive players i" on the team and he causes a lot of turnovers by the 6-- . 6-- . THE 1980 LAYTON High School Basketball Team : (bottom left to right), Stuart Rosenlund, Mike Bunting, Keith Wilson, Jeff Pearce, Tom Watson, Kirt Bailey, Mike Moss, (top) Matt Baker, Mark Pobant, Dave Leach, David Barney, Rich Ipaktchian, Brian Cunningham, Layne Sackett, coach Doug Moon. opposing teams. His endurance is super and he can go non-sto- p with the same intensity for an entire game. He also goes to the boards well and is a good shooter. Dave Barney Forward He is our best foul shooter and outside shooter on the team and hes a good rebounder. Other players Moon plans to use a lot off the bench will be Keith Wilson, guard; Dave Leach, forward; Kirt Bailey, guard; and Stuart Rosenlund, guard. In Region 1 play, Moon picks Roy and Bonneville as the teams to beat this year because they both boast many returning letterman and they both have big men in the middle. 6-- 1, Wildcats End Dismal 1 980 Grid Campaign - OGDEN Weber State College ended its 1980 football season last Saturday, losing to ,.
