Baker of 102 Ellison St., Layton, has been chosen to attend Boys State this month at Utah State The American Legion University. sponsors the mock government session to give young men an opportunity to learn how government works. Baker is a member of the National Honor Society chapter at Layton High School and a member of the basketball team. He is a member of the acapella choir and the Laytones singing group. Another business student, Malinda Adams, received $500 as the winner of the first annual Citizens National Bank Award. Jeff Pierce was named winner of the Ken Call Award, a trophy given to the at the high school. best student-athlet- e Another athlete, Jim Suitt, was the recipient of the Vaun Barber Award given to the athlete who best represents the school. Suzi Waggoner received $400 as the winner of the annual PTSA scholarship and Lori Wood, a cheerleader, received $500 from the Layton Rotary Club for her academic and citizenship skills. Seven students received, major honors at the spring Senior Award Banquet at Layton High School. Leslie Hillier, the schools first Sterling Scholar winner in home economics, received the prestigious Noall Z. Tanner Award, honoring the student who best achieves excellence in academic work and school and community leadership. Leslie also received one of six honorable mention awards in the nation d Magazine. by The Jay Willey Award, signifying excellence in the schools business department, was awarded to Lori LAYTON Co-E- Hill, Davis Schools - v Recycling Old Papers Hill Air Force Base and HILL AFB Davis County schools have joined in a conservation project which will save time and money for both agencies. Every month, Hill AFB accumulates tons of computer waste paper. The majority of it, 40 to 50 tons, is recycled Air Force programs. However, three or four tons have through carbon backing between the sheets which must be removed before it can be recycled. ' According to Murray Sant, a natural resources planner in Hills Civil Engineering branch, removing the is not cost effective and so it is usually hauled to the Davis landfill at a cost to the Air Force. In the meantime, Davis County schools had a need for scratch paper which Purchasing Agent Douglas Richins was hard pressed to find in the district budget. Sant and Richins met and found that the paper, carbon backing and all, was suitable for the schools needs. Sant arranged for the paper to be packed on pallets and Richins arranged for transportation to the schools thus fulfilling their agencies mutual carbon ' Weber State College Sets Commencement on Friday Weber State College will confer degrees on 1,761 graduates during the 93rd commencement exercises Friday at 6 p.m. in the Dee Events Center. Dr. Rodney H. Brady, WSC president, said this is the largest graduating class in the history of the school. During the exercises, honorary degrees will be conferred upon comenmunications leader and vironmentalist, Wilda Gene Hatch, and on former cabinet member and statesman Elliot Richardson. Richardson will also deliver the commencement address. A third honorary degree recipient, George Eccles will not be in attendance and will receive his degree later in the year. Dr. Brady said, I feel that commencement represents the culminating academic activity of the year. Following commencement exercises a reception will be held in the concourse area of the center to allow graduates and their families to meet with the various faculty members.
