One of the hardest items for preparedness- - minded parents to store An emergency is powdered- - milk. supply of the protein-ricstaple seems essential for families with young h children, but many mothers, whose youngsters spurn nonfat dried milk, find it difficult to use it up during its two-yeone-t- o shelf life. However, with a bit of creative cookery, Nancy S. Evans, of 284 W. 800 N Sunset has solved the powdered milk dilemma to the extent that her family actually uses more dried milk than fresh. A former Pillsbury Bake-of- f finalist, Mrs. Evans offers recipes as varied as Sweetened Condensed Milk and Fluffy Fruit Pie. , Unitarian Church June 27 At Her fruit and milk drink is a cool and nutritious answer to hot summer days, while her quick and easy uncooked fondant rivals the most complicated versions. A native of Minneapolis, Mrs. Evans is married to Highway Patrolman Nolan Evans. They are the parents of four children ranging in age from three to fourteen years. In addition to cooking, Mrs. Evans enjoys homemaking skills and arts and crafts. The whole family runs a part-tim- e carnival business complete with rental booths and rides as a source of income. Mrs. Evans feels that the economic aspects of using powdered milk have been of great help in stretching the familys budget every day, as well as in times of emergency. Here are some of her recipes. Fruit Drink In a blender, combine fruits and juices to equal 4 Cups. Add 1 Cup powdered milk and additional sweetener, if desired. Add 1 1. vanilla and ice cubes. Liquify.
