Clearfield Studies Street Project CLEARFIELD Clearfield City Council Tuesday considered options for improving the road from 700 S. to the bridge on 1500 E. Since the road needs so much work, it is doubtful that matching funds can be obtained the council was told. The possibility of transferring funds from a project on 1000 W. was discussed and this will be studied by the council. However, it was felt that once the off ramp at 1700 S. is completed, 1500 East will be a primary access to Hill Air Force Base. Therefore, the possibility of widening the south side of the street should be sidered. Howard McMillen of the road department said several large trees would have to be removed before sidewalk, curb, and gutters could be installed. available on a first come first serve basis. It was decided that the property owners should be contacted to get their feelings on the matter. A question arose as to whether the bridge is strong enough to take the weight of trucks. Mayor Donald Townley said a stress test had been done and he had received assurance that it would take the weight. He said Department of Transportation people would be in Wednesday to check the bridges also. Rick Hamblin appeared before the council with pictures of flood damage to his property, along with . bids submitted for cost of repairs. Hamblin said that during a heavy rain storm on June 2 part of his yard washed away. He feels that this is due to inadequate storm drainage. He said this has happened previously and that the base of his driveway has now washed away. Carl Jensen, former building inspector, checked the property over a year ago and felt that the storm drains were not adequate, and he advised Hamblin to write a letter to the city and advise them of the situation, Hamblin said. Hamblin said he didnt write a letter until he had been flooded out several times. Townley said he and Sorenson had looked at the property to assess the damages. He feels that in order to correct it, either sand could be pumped in to raise the steps and driveway or pour cement down about 14 inches on each side so the driveway is not undermined. McMillen, building inspector, said a study of the storm drains was done by Jerry McKellar, who found the storm drains to be adequate, but the method of collection a problem.
