The penalty get Alta's back away from the wall and eventually led to a drive for the Hawks' only touchdown late in the game. NOWAY! Jacklin doesn't agree with the call or the referee's acting ability. But the coach's anquish didn't last long; five minutes later he was celebrating the Royals' win. Too SALT LAKE CITY close, is how Roy Coach Jacklin called the game between Alta, and if his son didnt intercept the line then Hawks pass on the the Royals may have been listening the final game on the radio instead of watching it on the sidelines. Alta knows how to make big plays, but Roy knows how to stop them. The 7 win puts Roy in the same position as they were last year when they entered the final game against Bnneville, and lost. But Jacklin hopes last years experience will give his team the advantage in the game. But Bountiful also has experience in the finals and have won the 3A title. Many players on this years team were there when Bountiful took the championship. Last weeks game didnt live up to expectations in the first quarter due to the Roy defense shutting down the Hawks attempt to move in the air. But the second half was the heart thumper which characterizes the playoffs. Alta had real momentum going into Thursdays game. They beat Davis with a convincing and powerful air show. When they strutted the field Thursday, they looked as if they were going to use Roy as a stepladder on to the finals. But Roy also had momentum going for them. They upset Granite the week before in a show of Region One strength, and it was their strength which would pluck the Hawks from rd 12-- their dreams. It was the Royals secondary which was supposed to be ready for the game, and it was clear they did their home work. Alta quarterback Todd Handley found Roy defenders as receivers about as much as a Hawk. But the Roy defensive line caused a good number of bad passes. Handley soon found out that Roy enjoys devoring the person with a ball and instead of being the meal of Ray Sanchez, Mark Eggin-toStewart Mac Innes or Scott Reid. If Handley had a hard time getting off his passes then Jacklins task was monumental. If Alta showed any signs of moving down the field the Roy secondary would group up to intercept a pass or the line would turn off Altas running. Late in the second quarter Eric Aragon picked off a Handley pass and ran it to the Hawks line. Jacklin was able to connect Mike Reske who was dropped on the 6. In the last minute of the half Gary Azshley then took the sprint-ou- t pass to give the Royals a edge. And one of the most fundamental aspects of football is the mental preparedness of the players, which is attested to in their intense and aggressive play. If Eggett can hang on to the ball and Smith runs with determination they can look towards a State Championship. The entire team seems to be putting it and really doing a job on their opponents. He responded by saying that once in the playoffs all the teams are going to be tough, and it didnt matter to him, his team would continue to play their fundamental game and win. ." er rhwo by Den Miller s ; |
