Run-of- f ing range will be diverted northeast into another existing storm drain that runs in the street in front of the junior high school. We see real benefits in this, Stephens said. Previously, water from the roof of Roy High and its parking lot has gone into nearby sumps. This is probably what created the problem for the homes, Stephens said. If the district is able to complete all of the construction at the same time, the parking problems should also be lessened, he said. The driving range should provide about 200 parking stalls when not being used for drivers training, so evening activities would be covered, Stephens said, In a Weber board meeting held last week the possibility of having a road lead from the driving range to Sand Ridge Junior High was discussed. The road would allow the junior high to use the extra parking stalls in the evening also. Sidewalks already exist between the two schools and the parking will be close enough to be practical for Sand Ridge. The driving range will be framed in curbing which will prevent the extensive surface flooding that would be expected. The range will be constructed with the contour of the land in order to avoid the cost and maintenance of building up part of the area. drop from Presently there is a 20-in- ROY Expansion at Roy High School has developed into a neighborhood controversy. Roy residents dont understand and are making quick judgments, Ron Stephens, administrative assistant at the Weber School District, said. The district intends to develop the school with the construction of a new gym, a larger auditorium and driving range. There has been a problem with water run-of- f from the schools existing buildings ending up in basements of homes in the housing development northeast of Roy High. Residents from that area are worried that the new buildings and d areas will reextensive sult in even more water run-of- f Stephens said. Other residents are afraid that the new buildings will cut down on parking stalls. Both Roy High and the nearby Sand Ridge Junior High School have parking problems during activities such as games, plays and social events. When the new auditorium is completed it will cut down the number of stalls by 100, Stephens said. These stalls are also being used by the Roy Recreation Complex. Stephens said that the district officials have considered these issues and have worked closely with city officials and the Roy city engineer to solve them. Officials are planning to take the water run-of- f from the existing build black-toppe- after-scho- 7A Lakeside Review, Wednesday, Nov. 18, 1981 ol f 15-fo- ot Roy High School to the housing development and about 20 feet to Sand Ridge. The driving range has brought comments from residents, Stephens said. The district is hoping to get the range because it will save local money. The state is encouraging the driving ranges and will give the district $65,000 to help with construction cost. The total cost will be about $85,000, Stephens said. The project would cost the district $20,000 in local funds. If the 100 stalls that will be covered by the new auditorium are replaced it would cost $40,000 in local funding, he said. After construction, the range will be more cost effective, the administrator said. With a range, it is possible for a single instructor to effectively train more than one student at a time. The range would be used for three of the six hours of training required for the drivers education course. Stephens said the range would save about $25,000 a year. A study of driving range training as compared to actual street driving by students shows that driver effectiveness is not affected, Stephens said. The states report on the study was presented to the board last week. The need for a new gym has also been questioned, he said. Stephens said that because of the expanded program for girls, the present gym has become overcrowded. He said the gym was used to capacity with physical tion classes and boys sports. starts Friday, 9:30 a.m. sizes available quantities. ..not many limited in all may be each grouping. ..colors and styles limited to stock on hand, so shop early for best selection! in our Layton store womens sportswear buys for boys NOW 27 MISSES' BLOUSES 120 MISSES' SHIRTS 40 MISSES' POLY.
