Show 2A Lakeside Review, Wednesday, Nov. 18, 1981 603 Acres ' ' Developer Buys yreaeuse Land By ARLENE HAMBLIN Review Correspondent SYRACUSE Finalizing an effort which began in 1974, the Boyer Company of Salt Lake City has announced the acquisition of 603 acres located in Syracuse. The property, formerly owned by the John R. Barnes Co. is located south of the West Point line between 1000 West and 2000 West and North of 700 South, which has been zoned industrial. The other protion is located between 2000 West and 2500 West, bordered on the north by 700 South and on the south by 1700 South. It will exclude the property owned by C.H. Dredge Co. Several uses, including residential, commercial and industrial are planned. The property, which has been appraised in excess of $10 million, has been rented for many years to local farmers who have raised crops for local marketing such as potatoes, onions, tomatoes, sugar beets, hay. It has long been a favorite hunting spot for pheasant hunters. But it was destined to discovery and prime for progress, the developer said. Dan C. Gardner who will take the helm in the development of the Syracuse project, is a general partner in the Boyer Company along with his brother Kem and H. Roger Boyer. The Gardners have been residents of Syracuse and West Point for many years. Dan has a home on 1000 West and feels optimistic about the future plans for expansion in Syracuse. The portion set aside for light industrial development has ready access to paved roads, a spur of the Union Pacific Railroad, the Freeport Center and is within a mile of the off ramp. All these are ideally situated for potential industrial developers. The part which will be zoned for the development of homes will begin on the north between 2000 and 2500 and will be plotted in one, three, and five acre parcels and developed as estate lots. Further to the south, plans are being made for lots of 10,000 square feet to be sold for single family homes. In the overall planning which has been tentatively set at an approximate 10 year development plan, the concept calls for high density residential accomodations or multiple family dwellings to be erected further down the line. About 43 acres will be set aside for parks and school sites. 1A jects that would have otherwise gone to the city, county and school districts general funds. Barlow answered this critcism by noting that although the governmental agencies are losing tax money now to the agency, the money will later be recouped when the developments come back on the tax rolls and the investment pays off in new higher property taxes.
