Prom By DAVE WIGHAM True the Darts entered the - SALT LAKE CITY The word upset has been thrown around a lot this year in high school sports and it came up again last Tuesday when the Darts from Davis beat Murray in the opening round of the state 3A tournament. basketball tourney with a 7-- 7 record from Region Four while the Spartans were at 3 and cochampions in Region Five. But anyone who has watched the Darts in the last decade also realizes that the Kays-vill- e school has a habit of playing their best ball in the state event. 11-- the Darts had a chance to win of bounds and the overtime was on. . Mounteer scored a bucket in the corner to give the Darts lead but the Spara tans came right back with a! With about twoi lay-uminutes left in the overtime Coach Mike Gardner ordered offense. The the Darts ran it to perfection and to set up then called time-ou- t a play with eight seconds left. two-poi- nt COONRADT FINISHED the night with 15 points but more importantly his dominance of the boards, 17 rebounds for the game, was a key to the win. Junior Jeff Emery led the Darts in scoring with a 23 point performance with Mike Mounteer playing a great floor game handing out 10 assists and scoring 8 points. The Darts then moved on to meet number one ranked Provo in a quarterfinal affair After the game Coach Gardner indicated that. the set play had three options with Mounteer and Jeff Emery being the first two choices and then Coonradt, if the other two were covered. It worked. but their pass went out A COUPLE of outside passes and then into the middle to Coonradt who cooly turned around and shot a twelve-foo- t jumper over his defender to win the contest.
