Phlebotomists are technicians who draw blood from patients for testing in the medical laboratory. THE CLASSES are taught each Monday and Wednesday from 7 until 9:30 p.m. by Geri McConaughy, senior medical technologist in the hematology division of the hospi terminology and teach both capillary blood collection and venipuncture techniques, as well as some of the simpler blood tests. Ordinarily, when we hire someone to work as a phlebo-tomis- t, we expect that it will take a full two weeks of individualized instruction, plus six months of experience, before they are fully trained. On April 3, twelve students at North Layton Jr. High School received either trophies, honorable mention awards or special awards at the regional science fair held at Weber State College.
