Earl Harris of 2151 North Hill Field Road, Layton, retires from his position as the manager of the Weber River Water Users Association and the Davis-Webe- LDS Church, Mr. Harris has held many church leadership I positions through the years. Currently, he is the Layton Stake high priest secretary, a position he has held for over ten years. Mr. Harris and his talented wife, LaVerne, are the parents of two children, Linda Buckner of Salt Lake City and Dan M. Harris who is currently attending BYU. Dan was recently discharged from the U.S. Air Force after serving six years in the Air Force. Mr. and Mrs. Harris have two erandrhildren. MR. HARRIS was president of the Utah Water Users Association for six years. Counties r Canal Company. Mr. Harris will remain in an advisory capacity until Dec. 31. MR. HARRIS has been the manager of the two water companies since 1958. He c succeeded his father, the late D.D. Harris. The senior Mr. Harris became the manager of the canal company in 1925. The Davis and Weber Counties Canal Company was organized in 1884 to provide water for people living in Davis and Weber Counties. Men like John G.M. Barnes and E.P. Ellison were among the founders. In the early days, water from the Weber River was used as irrigation water. The supply ran out around July 1. 3-- w ' fjts C. water storage reservoirs were built, one in Echo Canyon and a second reservoir in East Canyon. These two water storage facilities insure water users with a supply when the Weber River water runs low. Today, the Davis and Weber Counties Canal system services 40,000 acres of land. Mr. Harris has never worked for any other company or business. His job with the canal company was interrupted for four years and four months when he was drafted into the Army Air Force. Mr. Harris served in the medical corps. At the time he was drafted, Mr. Harris was attending Utah State University. HIS JOB as the manager of the Weber River Water Users Association means Mr. Harris is responsible for the operation of Echo Reservoir. Mr. Harris began working for the canal company while he was a teenager. His first - .
