Show y WEEKLY REFLEX ip n nge ge ' MM!? V Layton native, Dr. R. Adams Cowley was honored March 1, 1979 by the University of Utah Alumni Association at the 129th Founder's Day Banquet. Dr. Cowley is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Wallace W. Cowley. HE ATTENDED Layton Elementary School, Davis High School and the University of Utah. He was admitted to the University of Maryland School of Medicine in 1949. He graduated from this medical school as 8th in his class. He earned the degree of Thoracic 1951 from the University of Michigan. At the present time, Dr. Cowley is the director of the Maryland Institute of Emergency Medical Services and professor thoracic and cardiovascular surgery at the Surgeon in University of Maryland School of Medicine. HE IS a pioneer in shock a treatment, specialist in thoracic surgery and a world leader in emergency medicine. He has contributed research in the area of hyperbaric oxygen treatment. . Dr. Cowley has recently been as recognized trauma shock-traum- a pioneer and in May of 1977, he was awarded the "Distinguished Marylander" award. He is the acknowledged world in leader emergency medicine and his consultation is sought by medical leaders in many foreign countries. 1 HE WAS instrumental in the successful testing of a briefcase-size- d machine that could transmit messages by satellite during a disaster or medical emergency. Using the satellite system, pictures and vital statistics will be sent through the machine via satellite by medics at the emergency scene to a doctor for medical advice. The system will be invaluable in setting up communications with remote areas where radio and telephone services still do not reach. THE MACHINE has been developed by NASA at a cost of $5,000. It weighs about 22 pounds and is powered by a battery.
