Show COUNTY. NEHII CITY, UTAH. VOL. D. A Will i The 6. Otever A. II. Anderson, election day. SUK Shorten Distance To The Mona OCT. t2S. Correspondent . public Done Being HEPHI The following article in the Salt Lake Tribune relative to the Denver and Rio Grande's proposed railroad to Nephi connecting with the Sanpete Valley branch will be of interest to the Times readers; The development of 100,000 acres of land: the shortening of the line to Tintic twenty miles, the shortening of the distance to all points below Ephraim ten miles; a new line on the west side of the Utah lake through Nephi: such is the gigantic plan of the Denver & Rio Grande. And to complete all this but fortv eight miles of new construction will be necessary,- - forty-eigmiles through a practical level county. The cost would be normal as compared with the great traffic results. The rails can be taken up from the main line and used on the new branch. Here is the general outline of one of the most important projects ever brought up by the 'Rio Grande. The new line to leave the presht at just Mesa, Ik? -- yond the Jordan narrows, thirty miles of new grade to EUerta along the west shore of the lake. It would traverse Mosida, that wonderful new country where 10, 000 acres are ready for the seeds and the plow, and which the Rio Grande has already promised to build a branch to. Thence the line woulJ pass through the famous Goshen valley and cross the present Tintic line to Elberta. In other words, the first stretch of thirty miles would penetrate one of the richest fruit and grain lands of the future in the state, as well as cutting off twenty miles between the smelter and the Tintic district. Continuing from Elberta, but eighteen miles: would take the line into Nephi, and give the Rio Grande the short line into that city, as well as to connect up with its Sanpete Valley railwa below Ephraim, the distance would be reduced to all points by ten miles, as against the line at Thi.Hlle. This would. be the caw through to Marysvale. To secure these results the Rio Grande would practically only have to pay for the grading of the forty-ig- h mile?, and this could be accomplished cheaply owing to the level country. 1 he ' decision to build to Mot.ida was reached some time ago, but now the same results can lie accmp lished, and far greater results, by adopting the new plan.
