All the jurors, witnesses, attorneys, and court officials were present ready to try the the case of the State of Utah vs. Samuel Hooper, when it was learned that the defendant had "skipped his bonds", and his whereabouts was unknown. The clerk called his name as prescribed by law but as there was no response his bonds were forfeited. As his bondsmen are two prominent men of Eureka, the State will be a thousand dollars the gainer. The defendant was thp assistant cashier of the McCornick branch bank at Eureka, and was last seen about a week ago in Salt Lake where he went for the ostensible purpose of seeing his attorney. He has left his wife and children at Eureka. His former home was in Michigan. Ie was charged with c. statutory offense with a young Italian girl. Displea sed at in Trial of Court Delays Cases. Judge Greenwood has since annulled his order regarding the pay of jurors during the recent recess taken by the court, and ordered that the jurors receive sufficient per diem to equal their mileage one way. This will give the Nephi and Levan jurors one day's pay, and the Tintic jurors 5 days' pay.
