A The establishment of an elk herd in our mountains will result in advantages, whose value to Nephi cannot be overestimated. In the first place, twenty to for ty elk in a pasture is no common sight, and many people will travel a long way to see them Visitors to Nephi will make it a point to see the elk herd; and then they will talk of what they see during their trip home and after their arrival there. Nephi will be known to lovers of anirn alsasan "elk center." Later, as the elk become more accus tomed to conditions here and are free to roam in the they will increase rapidly and will soon be present in sufficient cumbers to attract sportsmen . iromnearanu iar. At such a time Nephi is bound to profit by the visits of these lovers of hills m COMPLEXION 8. charge was efficient, and in that pasture the elk have remained. Now considerably more room is needed, for those elk which have been closely confined. They must be allowed more freedom, in order to assist them to forget the past; and then, too, there are more elk coming at an early date. Thanks to the efforts of several enterprising citizens, that room is now available. Mrs. Jackson has granted a of her year lease on 80 land which in is located pasture Salt Creek canyon. She has done this gratis, the only requirement being that the land be fenced, that no injury be done the land and that the fence be left on the land at the termina tion of tho lease. Such public spirited citizens are valuable in any community. Work on the fence was begun last Wednesday. This fence must be made ."elk proof" and for that reason it will be an expensive one. It is proposed to string seven barbed wires around the 80 acres, fastening the wires to strong, well set cedar posts. It may be necessary to use some net wireln certain places, in order to against an outbreak. In low places the posts will have to be anchored, else the tension of the seven wires, pulling from above and from both sides, would raise the posts out of the ground. The construction of such a fence should answer the purpose. Five men are working on the fence. About two weeks time will be required to complete the con struction of it. Each man on the job is contributing two day's labor. The expense of the fence construction, which will be over $300 will be borne by enterpris ing citizens of Nephi and neigh boring towns. A subscription list is being circuited and contributions are being made freely. In case enough money is not raised by subscription, it is pro posed that a grand Elk Dance be given next Friday night for the purpose of completing the sum necessary to cover the cost of the fence three acres insure Worthy Cause. m cut a sport. The cause is a worthy one and elk-pastu- re it will receive the support of all public spirited citizens.' It is a move to establish near this town something to go to see, something to enjoy when one sees it, and something to talk about when one returns. It is a big step towards the establishment of a pleasant summer resort in Salt Creek canyon. It is worth while. Second Ward Program. Gladys Garrett Albert Allen Vocal Solo P. V.
