Show Redmen Fall Before Typhoon Rally In Final Football Game The Cedar High School Six-man football team came within four minutes of winning the division championship Friday, but the Red-men Red-men "bit the dust" for the first time this season when the Hurricane Hurri-cane Typhoons staged a sensational last quarter rally to win the all-Important all-Important game by a score of 36 to 26. As a resuult of this defeat the Redmen dropped Into a tie with the Typhoons, making it necessary for the two teams to meet In a playoff game. The game will be played at St. George Friday afternoon, and the winner will meet the Brlgham Young University High School team the following week end for the state title. In the other games of the week, Beaver defeated Hinckley, 34 to 13, and Dixie won from Parowan 28 to 6. As a result of these victories the Beaver and Dixie teams finished in a tie for third place and Parowan and Hinckley tied for sixth. Mllford finished fifth in the seven team league. The Cedar-Hurricane game was one of the best games of the seasan with both teams playing fast, smart ball and resorting to every trick at their command to win. The Redmen took the lead early in the first quarter, and held it until the waning wan-ing minutes of play when Hurricane Hurri-cane went into the lead with onlv four minutes left to play and then added another touchdown before the game ended. The Redmen's first score was made when Dale Milne went over for a touchdown after receiving a short pass from Delmar Janson. Cedar drove to the Hurricane 21-yard 21-yard line at the end of the quarter and then scored on the second play of the second period with Janson again tossing a pass for the score, this time to Court Nelson. Each of the kicks for point after touchdown touch-down was wide and Cedar led 12 to 0. At tliis point Hurricane's vaunted vaunt-ed offense started to click and the Typhoons marched straight down the field for a touchdown. The march was made on a series of long passes and running plays which the Redmen could not stop. The try for the point was perfect and Cedar's lead was cut to 12 to 8. The Red-men Red-men came back with a vengence, and a few plays later Dale Milne went 50 yards to another touchdown after receiving a pass from Low-man. Low-man. Beautiful blocking cleared the way for the speedy Milne, Sherman Sher-man Lamb taking out the lusf two would-be tacklers on an unusually well timed block. Hurricane again threatened in this period, but the halftime gun ended the threat with the Typhoons on the Cedar six-yard line, and the half ended with Cedar leading 18-3. An exchange of punts early in the third period forced Hurricane back against Its goal line and the ball carrier was dropped in the end zone for a Cedar safety to give the Redmen a 20 to 8 lead. However Hurricane came right back for an other score to trail only by 6 points. Before the period ended, however how-ever Cedar scored again when L. C. Miles intercepted a pass and ran 40 yards to cross the goal line. Wlffli Cedar's defense working nicely against Hurricane plays the 26-14 lead looked safe, but with just seven minutes left to play Cedar attempted a pass from a fake kick formation and it back-fired. An alert Hurricane player Intercepted it and raced to a touchdown, and the kick was good to bring Hurricane Hurri-cane to within four points of the Redmen, 26 to 22. This break gave the Typhoons new life and at the same time blew the Redmen into the air, allowing the visitors to score two touchdowns and a drop kick, to walk off with the game. |
