Show Jordon Knight Victim of Hayride Accident An M. I. A. party Tuesday night, in which a large group of Cedar First ward M. I. A. members mem-bers were happily enjoying a hayrack ride, turned suddenly into in-to tragedy as Jordon Knight, a member of the group, was fataly (Crushed under the wheels of the I wagon on which they were riding. Knight, the 15-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Knight of Cedar City, died in the Iron County hospital of chest injuries injur-ies shortly after he had been rushed there for treatment. The group was riding on a wagon wa-gon drawn by a tractor that was being driven by Lawrence Fret-well, Fret-well, and Knight, a close companion com-panion of Fretwell, was riding on the tractor with him. Although Al-though no one saw Jordon fall under the wheels of the wagon, it is assumed that the young man attempted to Join the group on the wagon by walking on the togue of the wagon, and apparently ap-parently he slipped and fell before be-fore he could reach the wagon. KNIGHT STORY The group, chaperoned by Mr. and Mrs. Dale Tingey, had left the church to begin the hayride only a short time before the accident ac-cident happened. None of the members of the party saw Knight fall but they all felt two distinct jolts, indicating indi-cating that both the front and rear wheels of the wagon passed over his body. The accident occurred at about 8:30 p. m. as the group was traveling tra-veling north on highway 91 near the Cedar City cemetery. Arch Benson, Iron County deputy dep-uty sheriff, passed the scene of the accident shortly after the mishap, and directed the investigation. investi-gation. Jordan Knight was born April 10, 1937, in Cedar City, a son of Clifford and Alice Webster Knight. He was a sophomore at Cedar City high school. Surviving are his parents and one brother, Richard Knight, all of Cedar City. Funeral services will be conducted con-ducted at the First ward chapel at 2 p. m. Saturday. Friends may call at the Southern Utah mortuary mor-tuary from 3:30 to 7 p. m., Friday, Fri-day, or at the family residence from 12 o'clock noon Saturday, until time for the services. Burial will be in the Cedar City cemetery under the direction of the Southern. Utah mortuary. |
