Show ChamberStudies Amtrack Use "The Cedar City Chamber of Commerce's board meeting explored the potentials for Southern Utah to attract the southern Calif, ski market and other tourists who might use Amtrack," said the Chamber's Executive Secretary Garth Jones. "The thrust of the meeting is to try to generate interest in the stop at Milford with Amtrack officials-they don't realize that this area was once a major stop of the Union Pacific Railroad." The Milford stop, some 55 miles from Cedar City, will be on the new Amtrack route from Ogden to Los Angeles which commences service on Oct. 28. The new route has been named the "Desert Queen." Area businessmen met Mon. and discussed how the route could be used to promote the area and its economy. The route is one of the few new Amtrack Am-track routes added at a time when other routes are being cancelled. Amtrack officials expect the new route to have a 79 percent capacity which will link Ogden with Chicago and then split into .two separate routes, one to southern Calif, via Las Vegas and the other to San Francisco. |
